Do Per megabyte charges apply for txt and pix if you have unlimited texting feature?

The website is confusing.  If you go about trying to purchase the LG Versa, you eventually get asked what data plan feature you want. There is a "Pay per Data Use ($1.99/megabyte) option, but if you click on it to see the details you get a popup stating :

"Pay Per Use Data ($1.99/megabyte)

Without the V CAST VPak or Mobile Web feature, you will still be able to access features such as Get It Now®, TXT Messaging, Picture & Video Messaging, and V CAST Music.  You will, however, incur megabyte usage charges while using these services.  You will not be able to access V CAST Video without the V CAST VPak.

Billing for Data Sent or Received. Data sent or received using Mobile Web (including advertising), Get It Now®, and other data applications will be aggregated at the end of each month, rounded up to the nearest whole megabyte, and billed at $1.99 per megabyte.

Rates are rounded to the nearest whole megabyte. One megabyte is equal to 1024 kilobytes. Application charges apply in addition to charges for data sent/received."

The strange thing is that this "Pay per Data Use ($1.99/megabyte)" option is not even offered for phones like the Envy3. Is the Versa treated differently in this respect than an Envy3 would be?

If you select the Nationwide Select Plan. it states you are signing up for "Unlimited Text, Picture Video & Instant Messaging". As you can see in the text above, there is no mention that the data charges do not apply if you have Unlimted Texting in your plan.

So which is it? Does Unlimited Texting totally eliminate all datacharges for texting and messaging?

There is no per megabyte cost associated with any type of messaging. None what so ever. So a Select plan will give you total unlimited messaging to anybody, any network for 1 flat cost. No megabyte charges.

Check out this handy chart to determine what does/doesn't use megabytes on your phone.

Went to Verizon today and discovered that they do in fact charge you for 1.99 per megabyte for sending and receiving pictures/videos. What it was in November has changed. Also, now all multimedia phones through Verizon require a minimum data package of 25mg for $9.99 a month. If you purchase a "simple phone" as they call it, you won't have to purchase a data plan, However, if you are wanting to send and receive pictures with that simple phone you'll still be required to purchase a data plan.

I'll check into this, but I don't think that is correct - we have unlimited texting, and have been sending pictures with no data charges; our phones are multi media phones, purchased in May 2009 and December 2009, before the mandatory data plans were required, and all we have is a texting plan.

I'm pretty sure you can purchase a "simple" phone, get the Talk & Text plan, and send pictures and videos as well as texts and not get charged any data.

Here's Verizon's plan description for Talk & Text.....

We have unlimited texting and I send pictures and videos all the time to verizon and non  verizon people and have never been charged for data to do so and our latest bill I sent a lot and there are no data charges for those, it's included in  my texting plan so they did not tell you right about that being someting new in November.  Now if you use the internet on the phone and send by way of e-mail then that would would use data, maybe that's what they were talking about.   We don't have a data plan and have data blocked on our phones.  I got my ENV3 before the 18th so don't have the $9.99 hassle.

I browse the boards a lot and if they had done that with texting in November a ton of people would have been complaining about it and there was no mention of this on the boards.  Mary

Also they can't just up and do that since you signed a contract agreeing to the terms that being unlimited texting with pic and flxs so if they were to just up and start charging data for that under texting they would be violating the contract you signed wouldn't they?  I just checked my sons account as he sends a lot too and there is no data charges so for sure that is not right and they are not doing that with texting plans, does not make sense they would do that and violate the contract.  I know my bill every month and if it's one penny different I go over it with a fine tooth comb to see what happens and our bill has not changed at all.    Mary

Texting/picture messaging and Data are two different things. You can either pay for each text or have a package of a certain # of texts for a fee, or unlimited texting. When you send texts or pictures this is texting. The data you talk about is for accessing the web. You can either pay $1.99 per MB which is measured by the # of pages that load or buy a package. It's for downloading music/tunes/tones, checking email, browsing web. Sending and receiving pics is texting, not data.

The data plan requirement has been talked about on numerous threads and started January 18th for the 3g phones.  You really must have misunderstood what they told you about sending pictures and videos in text or for some reason they did not tell you right.  Mary
