Gif speed

When I receive a gif from an iPhone in Message+, the animation speed is very fast.  I can't find that anyone else has the issue, but it happened on the Pixel 6 and also when I upgraded to the 8.  I gotta think there's a setting that's off.

PhrustratedinPhilly, thank you so much for reaching out regarding this issue. Help is here. Just want to confirm, are there any pending software updates for the Messaging+ application or for the Pixel device?

I've looked, but there do not seem to be any.

@PhrustratedinPhilly  I would recommend switching to the stock Android Messages (the blue icon) and stop using Message+. I have never seen this issue using Messages

I found that app they still come in like that. I actually noticed it happening on that first.  I actually switched to the message + app because I kept having issues with not receiving messages.

Same exact issue.   Started about a week or two ago.  Also using Message + .  Phone is a Galaxy S21.  GIFs from iPhones move at a high rate of speed.   Updated Messages + but still have the issue

And I just switched to the Blue Google Messaging app and it works fine.  It's definitely an issue with Messages +

I do want to keep using Messages + though so any help would be appreciated.

I've been having this issue also for several weeks on Message+. I have the Pixel 8 and the person sending the GIFs has an iPhone 14. When I receive GIFs from that iPhone, they are sped up. However, when I receive GIFs from an iPhone 11, the GIF speed is normal. I noticed that the iPhone 11 was running iOS 16.1.1, so I had the iPhone 11 updated to iOS 17.2.1 and resent the GIFs to the Pixel 8 and I experienced the  sped up GIF issue. So it seems to be an issue with receiving GIFs from iPhones that are running iOS 17.

doc93, we appreciate the details. What troubleshooting have you tried so far? If you use a different messaging app such as Messages by Google, does the issue persist?

Please keep in mind that Message+ is scheduled to be shutdown in mid 2024 and switching to an alternate messaging app such as Messages by Google is recommended.

As other posts have suggested, the problem does not happen in Google Messages.  I haven't tried any other messaging apps because it doesn't happen there.

Thank you for these details. Are all apps up to date on your device? Is your device up to date? Does this happen when being on Wi-Fi? ~Geo

I have the same issue. It only occurs when gifs are sent from iPhone users. Is this just another Apple monopolistic policy like how videos from iPhone always come through at extremely poor resolution?

Why are they shutting it down? 😞 It's always been my favorite app for messaging. Am I going to be able to transfer all my messages over to a new one?

Great question, YutterB. Yes, you can transfer text messages between Android devices wirelessly by downloading SMS (text messaging) Backup and Restore from the Play Store.
