One of my friends sent me a text to my cell phone number that he got a text from my landline number so I may have been hacked. How is this possible. Can you even texr from a landline?

Hi tae111. Thank you for this great question. There are way too many bad actors out there trying to steal our data and identity so can not be to careful. Check out this information on Smishing & Spam Tex Messages: https://www.verizon.com/about/account-security/smishing-and-spam-text-messages
Let us know if you have questions.

No, you can't text from a landline (POTS or VoIP). It's a crook spoofing your number and they obviously thought it was a mobile number. Tell your contacts if they see a suspicious text coming from "you" that it's not. This is a pretty common sc*m.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
