I recently purchased an iphone 6, and since it was activated on Sunday, I am unable to see any text messages from iphone users, on my Verizon Messages. Any suggestions?

Hi Tellub.
Congratulations on the new phone! I hope that you are loving it. iMessage is Apple's messaging system that allows you to text in between Apple devices. If you turn it off, it won't turn anything else off. Your messages will just simply process as a regular text message.

It appears you have signed up for iMessage which DOES NOT use standard SMS. Other iPhone users think you have an iPhone and messages from them would be available under iMessage.
If you want to get all of your messages on Verizon Messages, you would have to turn off iMessage. You can turn off iMessage in your settings.

Thank you so much for your quick response. One other question as I am new to iPhone. If I turn off iMessage, does this turn off any other feature of the iPhone?

As far as I know, turning off iMessage only turns off iMessage.

I'm very new at this so please be patient. I want to be able to see text messages in Verizon Messages that why I would shut iMessages off on the iPhone. But does shutting that feature off change the look, speed, flexibility, ect of sending and receiving text messages? The phone is for a teen ager and I don't want any of the fun features of the iPhone lost if I turn off iMessages.

Good question. No this will not change anything on the phone. It will work just as it does if iMessages were turned on.

Hi,
I disabled the iMessaging on my iPhone and for a couple minutes I could see my incoming and outgoing text messages on Verizon Messages. After those couple of minutes I could no longer see them, but iMessaging is still off. I really like using the Verizon Messages system. What do I need to do to restore that feature. I can see all text messages from people with android phones. It's only iPhones that are not showing up.

Ask your friends with iPhones if the texts they are sending you have blue or green bubbles around them. If they are blue, their phones are still sending the texts as iMessages. It may take awhile for all iPhones to recognize that your phone is no longer an iPhone once you deregister from the system.

Thank you again for the information. I don't have the phone with me right now but will check the color from messages last night. Any guess at how long it usually takes for iPhones to recognize that the feature has been turned off? And is there anything else besides just turning it off on the actual phone that needs to be done to disable it? It was strange because I could see everything on Verizon Messages for about 10 minutes after I shut off the iMessage feature, and then it went back to me not being able to see any incoming or outgoing text from iPhone users. I use this feature at work a lot so I'm anxious to get it figured out and working again.

Ok, I just had my daughter check my phone and she said the bubbles keep changing colors in conversations last night. Maybe some iPhones are recognizing it faster than others?

That would be my guess.
Sometimes an iPhone must be power cycled before it will recognize the change. Unfortunately, this is an Apple problem and their choice to bypass the normal SMS/MMS messaging system in favor of their own proprietary system and you have no other course of action if you want to utilize Verizon Messages which only utilizes SMS/MMS.

Hi,
I really appreciate your input. I have one last question. I shut off the iMessage and asked people who we text frequently to make sure their Send as SMS was on- a suggestion from Verizon. That seems to be working with most iPhones. But there are a couple that when my daughter sent a text with an emoji, the text show up blank, but if she does it without one it's ok. This was sent to an iPhone that turned on their Send as SMS. Maybe both of them shut off the phone and restart?

It's possible, I don't know. I do think that an SMS sent with an emoji is most likely sent as an MMS and the phone may handle those a bit differently. Hopefully you will get this worked out soon. Good luck.

I actually prefer Verizon Messages over iMessage, too, because I can send/receive from my desktop at work where I don't get a reliable cellular signal. For a time I use an iPhone and when first activating it, I specifically did not sign up for iMessage for this reason.
My wife, on the other hand, also tried an iPhone for awhile but signed up for iMessage when first using it. Previously, she also used Verizon Messages and when iMessages weren't available anymore on her iPad, she chose to cancel iMessage in favor of strictly using Verizon Messages. This is when I first had reason to look into this problem as her iPhone friends were no longer able to message her. I know for some users it took longer than others for all messages to start coming through, but eventually they did. I think some of the problem also had to do with how up to date iOS was on the individual iPhones. Not everyone is as proactive in keeping their OS up to date as other are.

Hi...one more question. I never noticed this before but when I send a text on my computer through Verizon Messages, is the text supposed to show up on my iPhone? It doesn't seem to be which I thought was really weird. Most of the conversations I have on Verizon Messages are at work so I never checked that in the past.

Hi Erin,
The reason I asked is I like using Verizon Messages and found out via a chat on your website that with iMessaging, you can't see those messages on Verizon Messages. This phone is for a teen ager so I want to make sure all of the fun things about an iPhone are still intact if I turn off iMessage. r do you know of an Apple product that works the same way as Verizon Messages?

Ah, I completely understand Tellub. Yes, since iMessages route through Apple's messaging server, and not ours, there isn't a way to view them with iMessage. I am not aware of any Apple products that would work that way, no. And if you shut of iMessage, they can still communicate with other iPhones, just not using iMessages.

One other question....if I shut off the iMessage component, does turning that off disrupt any communication from iPhone to iPhone?
