International SPAM SMS

Is anyone experiencing international spam SMS Messages from different numbers?

They appear to be a porn messages. It costs 20 cents to receive a SMS Message internationally and I am already down couple of bucks in the hole.

Called up Verizon and they are suggesting switch the cell phone number which is ironic since I have had this number for a long time.

I've gotten a couple. The latest, per Googling the contents of the message, was from a Digicel user in Jamaica.

It's very annoying that I get charged when some spammer in Jamaica sends me a text, AND I get charged again when I reply with STOP. I wish Verizon had a way to block all international text messages on an account. I will never use this feature and resent having to pay for the privilege of being spammed.

I'm also very careful to whom I give my cellphone info, so I think this spam must have been sent at random, rather than from someone having access to my number.

I would recommend adding a premium sms block, this will stop the spam messages.

But won't that block all "short code" messages? I need to send and receive those for a number of services -- UPS delivery notices, checking my bank balance via SMS, weather notices from work, etc. I don't want to lose those, too.

It seems like it ought to be easy for Verizon to identify messages coming into their system from abroad, and to block them for those customers who don't wish to receive them.

Blocking Premium SMS does NOT block short codes - I have premium sms blocked and still do Twitter, Facebook, weather alerts, etc - it just blocks the Premium services that add $9.99 or more to each of your bills to send you a joke a day that I neither wanted nor asked for.
