I am getting a notification that Message+ is Syncing Messages - Temporary Background Processing. What does it mean and how do I get it to stop?

I have Pixel 2XL & just solved the same issue. I'm kinda in a hurry so I don't have time to look at all the others solutions. My apologies if someone already gave this same answer. This is also my first time on this forum (or any forum, really) so I don't know all the ins & outs, etiquette, etc. So please forgive me if I am stepping where I don't belong. I too, was looking for a solution for this issue. I started to follow one of the suggestions & some how managed to end up in just the right place. Here is what I did and it worked for me so far.
Open settings, choose Apps & Notifications. Locate and choose Message+. Locate and open App Notifications. In there you should see Background Message Syncing. Turn it off.
Again, if someone already suggested this, I apologize.

Thank you! It too bad someone who actually works at Verizon couldn't answer the question. Glad you had a clear answer.

naythor, I can certainly understand the confusion that may arise from seeing syncing messages on your Messages+ app. Help is here. As 3Mothers has shared, have you turned off background message syncing? 3Mothers confirms the steps as follows: "Open settings, choose Apps & Notifications. Locate and choose Message+. Locate and open App Notifications. In there you should see Background Message Syncing. Turn it off." This user has confirmed that these steps have resolved her issue with the background syncing prompts. Please try this step, let and us know the results. Looking forward to hearing back.

Saying that something is fixed just because you turn it off doesn't mean it is fixed. This is a problem that has show up on my phone since the update to Android 8.0.0 security Patch Aug 1, 2018. The phone (even after rebooting) will go into mode "Syncing Messages-Temporary Background Processing Notification" and never leave this mode other than turning the background syncing off or rebooting - after a reboot it comes back in a short period of time and never goes away

Sorry for any confusion, AZEqualizer. We know it's important to understand what's happening with your phone. What you're seeing on the phone is not a "mode". Android implemented changes to provide notification on your phone of service that are consuming background power on devices. This is why you see the notification since the update. Your phone is functioning as intended. By following Tidbits' steps on page one of this thread, you can learn how to disable the notification in the new Android environment. Does this help to clarify?

We don't want this to be an ongoing problem. Have you updated the software for the Messaging+ application?

SamNote9, I'd be happy to help expand on this question. To help me with that, I need a little background information. Are you using Verizon Messages to synch your messages at all with another device (like a tablet)?
In addition to the ability the to synch to another device, VZ Messages are synching with the online backup for your messages. You can then view your messages in My Verizon if something happened with your device. Since it's a background process, the latest Android updates inform you when that occurs. Did I explain that okay?

Same question as SamNote9. I can turn off the notification, but I am more interested in what is causing the synching that lasts so long?

Hello there, DROYER26! Thank you for reaching out to us today. We would be glad to help you in any way we can. Can you clarify further, what do you mean by same question as note 9? What exactly are you trying to sync?

Sure. I am not concerned about the stopping the notices. I am concerned why it is synching. An earlier post mentioned that it is synching to additional devices if you have them added. I do not. What is it synching to, and how do I stop if from synching. I know how to stop the notifications.

Thank you for clarifying,DROYER26. It sounds like you are speaking about Integrated Messages, which allows you to access Messages+ from another device like a tablet. Is this correct? Take a look at our Integrated FAQs page here: http://spr.ly/6588D45b2.
