I get my internet, my voice and txt through my carrier Verizon. Now they are recommending and forcing us to use Google messages.
I read everything about the app and there is absolutely no privacy for anything I txt. That is the first problem.
I did load it to give it a try and when I tried to send a long message to my sister who is on Spectrum carried on an andriod it would not send. I check and I have RCS enabled and everything else turned on.
Before when I sent a large txt on Verizon message+ it would prompt me and say would you like to trim the message or send it via RCS. I would choose RCS when sister got it depending on the size of the txt it may have taken longer and spread across a few individual separate msg but she got it. Now it won't let me send at all on Google messages. It did not care what she had as an app or phone when I sent it.
Then I tried to send not a long msg but a very short msg to my friend on tmobile who for his own reasons he only uses voice and txt and he has an older phone that is a Microsoft OS. Before like wise I would just send and depending the size it would just send. Sometimes he get it immediately or if it was a larger file it would take a while. But it went. Now using google messages it just goes in circles and never sends even when I try resend it won't go. I can't even send a picture or txt or video nothing can be sent to anyone using Microsoft OS.
Then I have another friend that has an iPhone don’t know his carrier but any large msg and pictures/video I never had a problem in the past sending to him. Yes it would prompt me to trim or send RCS using Verizon message + but it would send with no problem. Now it won't send any picture or video without me being prompt to trim on google messages.
Then my daughter who is also on Verizon with an iPhone 15 latest os before there was never a problem and now I can send only pictures up to 1.2 gb and video maybe 2 seconds.
On the old Verizon message + it did not care what my recipient had for service or app it would send anyways. Now it appears somehow google messages knows what they have and won't let me send unless I change my format (trim).
Yes before when ever I sent something larger than normal on Verizon message + it would prompt me to trim or send RCS it did not care what they had.
Now I have an older cell Samsung s9 but until this change had no problems sending or receiving any text, large txt, or pictures no matter what it was.
Also it appears if my recipient does not have google messages then they can't get what I send or should I say I'm not allowed to send no matter what.
It also appears that yes my privacy is gone as it knows what everyone got and won't let me send no matter what it is just cause they don't use google messages or can't cause of the age of there cell phone or carrier they use.
I don't like all the intrusion (spying) that i have to endure to use google messages. I looked at my contract with Verizon and it says that I'm totally private except in the case of a court order for my voice and txt.
Bottom line is the transformation should be seamless and transparent for me as a user. Now I have to encourage my friends to either upgrade their phones or change there service to use google message to be able to do what we did before.
Yes there are other apps but I doubt I'll convince my Doctors, friends and family to load another app for me.
I'll look into the other carriers to see what they use and maybe change carriers after 30 years
