I've seen at least a dozen posts of this nature, but none go far enough to contain a solution...most people end up posting "Using another app now!"
Message+ no longer shows a text message icon when I get a new message. It also will not give me an audible notification no matter what I do. It vibrates, but that's it.
I've checked all of the settings.
Message+ --> triple-dot menu --> Customize --> Tones /I do have a tone selected
Message+ --> triple-line menu [left-hand side] --> Settings --> Heads up Notification /Box is checked
Phone settings --> Sounds and Vibration --> Sound mode /Sound is selected
Phone settings --> Sounds and Vibration --> Volume /All volumes [Ringtone, Media, Notifications, System] are turned up
Do Not Disturb is off
In addition, I've already uninstalled all of the updates and then reinstalled them again. Phone has been restarted as well.
So what next? I am thisclose to disabling the app and going to a 3rd-3rd-party messaging app. (Quite honestly, if I knew of one with a customizable background, I would've switched already. This has been a serious PITB.)
Edit: at this point, I couldn't care less about the status bar icon. I just want my sounds back!

BriAndroid, being notified of any new messages is important. What make and model phone do you have? What version of Message + are you working with? Menu > About > Version.

BriAndroid, thank you for the device and software version. What I would like for you to do is disable the application and enable it again. Go to Settings > Applications > tap Verizon Messages > tap Force Stop > confirm > tap Disable > confirm. Power the phone off for about 30 seconds or so. Follow the same steps to enable the application again and test it out. Please let us know how this goes.

Nothing, zero, zip, zilch. Followed directions exactly as presented, and I get no status bar notification, no sound, and the pop-up window itself is there, but when it pops up the screen doesn't turn on. It's now actually causing me to miss important communications. I can't sit and stare at my phone screen all day just so I don't miss a text. It's beyond ridiculous.

I rely heavily on my texts too, BriAndroid, so I see where you're coming from on this. I looked back and noticed you said that each time you disabled the app for troubleshooting, you then updated it again prior to testing. I've looked over the forums, too, and while we have alerted the designers to work on the fix, one suggestion was to disable and force stop Message +, then when you reenable it, to not do the update. The "old" version works in the meantime while you wait for the fix. Does that make sense?

Your Force Stop, no update to version suggested did work for my phone. I have a Samsung S9 however, not the S7 as BAndroid. Getting notifications again for now but, would prefer a permanent fix
AND the ability to set different ring tones for different people. The tones are limited from previous versions (cannot download tones for messages only ringtones). Not good for business uses or large families/friends
