Lately, I've been receiving text messages everytime I receive an email.  At the end of the text it states if I want to discontinue the notifications to reply "STOP".  I have tried this many times, but I am still receiving these text.  How do I stop it?

Depending on your device, there might be a setting in your mobile email to turn text notifications off. If you could, please be a bit more descriptive, including where the message is coming from and what kind of device you do have.

I am also receiving this texts, which are beyond ridiculous.  There is no point in having the internet and email option on the phone if you can't even use the mobile email program.  I get these texts every time an email goes into my hotmail account, but now the mobile email program doesn't even load these emails, it's almost like these texts are trying to send the entire email in them.  It's ridiculous and annoying.  I don't know what to do.

I have Hotmail set up with my Mobile Email and have never received a text message so I was curious.

I opened my Mobile Email and then selected my Hotmail account.

Once there I noticed that Options is in the lower right corner.

I pressed the corresponding button.

Press the Up Arrow 3 times and you should be on Settings.

Select Settings and the first option under Settings is Alert me for new messages.

Mine is set for Never.

This may fix your problem. If it doesn't then it's probably a setting in your Hotmail account.

I don't have those options.  When I open my hotmail account i click menu, then account settings, and it doesn't say anything where I can click never to receive messages.

Oh, you're talking about getting your email via the mobile web. I thought you were talking about the Mobile Email application. If you're accessing your email via the Mobile Web then all of the settings are at the Hotmail end. You'll want to log into your Hotmail Account on your home computer and check settings there or in your Live Mobile account settings.

I'll try to log in tonight or tomorrow to see if I can find the setting that controls that.

It is the Mobile Email application, not the mobile web.  My account was set up for two months with absolutely no problems, then all of a sudden overnight I started getting 3 or 4 text messages per email.  The text messages started and the email icon that used to pop up when I got an email stopped popping up and the emails stopped showing up in the Mobile Email application all together.  It is almost as if the emails are attempting to come through to the phone via text message instead of the normal way.  I did absolutely nothing to the settings in either Mobile Email or hotmail.  I have not signed up for any text messages via Windows Live or any other way.  I did nothing new to the accounts or signed up for absolutely no new phone services.  These messages started randomly and with no provocation.  They're driving me nuts so I deleted the email account from my phone, but I'm getting extremely frustrated with the whole thing.

Okay, what I did was open the Mobile Email application

Select my Hotmail account.

The top line is blue and has the Windows icon and reads Windows Live Hotmail

The bottom line is also blue and reads

          Refresh        ( Read )        Options

I selected Options and I'm given the Options:

     Reply

     Fast Reply

     Delete

     Forward

     Mark Read

     Save to Phone

     Move

     Compose

     Folders

     Settings

     Refresh

     Exit

Under Settings the first thing that comes up is the option for:

     Alert me for new messages:

        o Always

        o Never

        o Only during:

[ boxes to enter times to be alerted]

There are other settings but they don't apply to this question.

There are no such options on the Mobile Email application.  The list under "Menu" is the same as you stated, but when I choose Settings (there is nothing anywhere that says "Options") there are two options; General and Account.  Neither of them have any options to change regarding notifications.

I am also having this problem.  I am still getting the emails via the mobile email application, but I also get the text messages.  Replying "STOP" does not seem to help.  As far as the settings menues go, maybe a couple of the previous posters have different versions, or apps all together.  I have the OZ Mobile Email ver.3.0.1.4 running on a Samsung Omnia and seem to have the same menues as CTeamer and Hylbri (as well as the same problem).  The text messages include "OZMAIL" in them, which makes me think it is a problem/setting with the application, not with hotmail.

Has anyone made any progress with this yet?

I have a Samsung Omnia as well.  Have had phone just over a month and this last week I've been getting the same text message as you all.  I have contacted support to block the number but haven't had much success (the gal turned off all my text messages).  They gave me a link to the parental control service ($5/mth) so I could block this myself.

I did remove the mobile email application which I think was a verizion program maybe.  I just use the windows "Messaging" tab to check email and text messages.  I wonder if that mobile email program messed things up.  Any help would be appreciated, I don't have a text plan so I am getting charged for these.

Ok, here is an update for all on what has been happening with my phone.  I went to the Verizon store down the street from my office FIVE TIMES asking them to fix the phone.  Each time they tried all different types of things and claimed the phone was fixed and it wasn't.  They did a hard reset (doesn't work so don't let them do it), tried removing the program and reinstalling it (doesn't work), and another time I left my phone with them for the whole day and told them to do what they needed to.  The last guy who worked on it said that they are switching servers for hotmail and gmail users and that perhaps not all of my information had been switched and there was a conflict in the servers, said he had seen it before.  He called and said that the phone was fixed and to come pick it up.  He was gone when I got there, but the problem continued.  The next day I went back and left it again.  This time they told me they couldn't help me anymore and that I would have to contact tech support who would work with the hotmail provider (that's who I use for email) to resolve the issue because they think it's something from hotmail, not Verizon.  When I called and was put with a tech support guy, he was INCREDIBLY RUDE and told me it was my problem and that I would have to contact hotmail and ask them to fix it.  I asked how he thinks I'm going to be able to talk to someone at hotmail and I was told it was not his problem.

I almost cancelled me service right then and there.  I've been a customer with them for almost 10 years, but didn't care at that point.  Anyway, I have never signed up for text alerts from hotmail for my cell and I verified that with my account, but I read the mobile info in the hotmail support and it said that if you don't want text message alerts to respond to any of the texts with "a off".  Even though I had never asked for these, I thought it couldn't hurt.  So I responded to the next text with "a off" and I haven't received one text since.  HOWEVER, I'm giving fair warning I don't know if it was something with the wireless system that needed to have a 24hr reset (whatever the guy did at the store with moving my info to the right server) or if it was something that hotmail had automatically signed me up for text alerts and the "a off" fixed that.  My suggestion is to go to the store, have them make sure your information is in/on the server correctly, and then also check your email's website about text alerts even though you may not have signed up for them.  Find the text info you are supposed to send back to stop the alerts and just try it.  I'm not sure which one fixed my problem, but i've been text-free for almost a week now.  I've also got my fingers crossed though, can't believe I got it stopped just yet.

This is a known issue.  It sounds to me like the store was attempting to take the right steps but did not advise you that this could take up to 7 days to actually fix the issue.  If you are not subscribed for text messaging please call in and our Customer Service Representatives can remove these alerts for you.  Please let the Customer Service Representative know you are calling about "Mobile Email alerts via a SMS TXT Message, the message is "Unsolicited SMS from 118012222269"

I have tried every imaginable and forum-recommended solution in order to stop the same flood of OZMAIL cr_p, and it hasn't worked. (This all started when I bought a Palm Centro, activated e-mail, then decided the Centro isn't reight for me, re-activated my old phone, and that's when the OZMAIL TMs started.) I've spent at least 6 hours on the phone with three different tech. help folks at Verizon who, although very professional, could do nothing but create a "Trouble Ticket" for solution at a higher level. I'm now in the fourth day of living with this aggravation, and I'm feeling less and less enthusiasm for remaining with Verizon. My contract ends October 2, and I've been yearning for an iPhone anyway, so it may be time to bite the bullet!

This experience has given "frustration" a whole new meaning!

If anyone reads this and has a for-certain fix, please let me know -- I'd be very grateful.

1) Change the password on the email account so Verizon/OZmail can't get it (and thus not notify with a text message)
2) Reload the "MobileEmail" from the Verizon mobile web page, deactivate the email account notifications and deselect "remember my password". You may then delete the application.

Have you tried this fix yet?

Michelle -- Thanks for taking the time to reply. On Wednesday (8/12) I got a call from VZW Tech. Support advising that the problem had been solved, and that the TMs should stop in 24-48 hours. Well, it took 24 hours, but then they stopped coming, so I think the problem has been resolved. (If you'd like to research what was done, it was under trouble ticket #3084926.)

Regarding your suggestions, I had indeed changed the PWs on the e-mail account, and that seemed to have no effect, which puzzled me. By the time I saw your note, it was no longer necessary to try your second suggestion, since the problem got fixed.

All that said, this was a most frustrating experience for me. Why it took five days to fix is beyond me.

Anyway, thanks again.

The problem with these texts is that they come through so many different ways its difficult to pin down the source.  There are may different way s to fix each different problem and since each one can take 24 hours all the way up to 7 days to so if it has worked, its isn't a quick fix.

I am glad to see that you have been able to get this resolved finally!

After about a month of dealing with this it's finally over. I had an ENV2 and switched to a Blackberry and that's when the "spam" text messages started. Every time I got an email on my Blackberry it was followed by a message from 118012222269. I would also get them at random time throughout the day. They totaled up to 30 a day. Here's how I got it to stop. I went into the Verizon store and reactivated my ENV2, signed on to my Verizon Wireless.com account and removed subscription to moble email, on my phone I canceled my 2 email accounts, and most importantly CANCELED BACKUP ASSISTANT, had Verizon reactivate my Blackberry and the "spam" stopped.  I am soooooo happy!!!

There is a lot more info on this subject on www.whocallsme.com.  Just search 118012222269 and read the threads. Here is a little of it.

Susan ... you are a blessing!  I have never been so frustrated with Verizon ... so basically, I need to go to a store (or can I call them?) have them reactivate my old phone, however my old phone did not have mobile email!  I had text messaging, internet browser (that I would get on FB etc.) on that phone. I did and think I still have the backup assistant! If you would be so kind and TELL me what I need to do I would so appreciate YOU!  I am not too bright when it comes to all this mess!  Today they told me I needed to change my phone number! Thank goodness I didn't do that!  A Verizon agent is calling me back tomorrow ...

I really, really, really feel that backup assistant is the problem. When we have Backup assistant on our phone and we switch to phones that don't have backup assistant, like a blackberry, Verizon glitches.  It continually tries to check for updates, realizes that it can't and sends the text message.  Some programmers cute joke. Mary, it sounds like your new phone is Backup Assistant capable. If this is the case I would still try this and when you reactivate your "NEW" phone again you can sign up for Backup Assistant again. It was suggested by several Verizon employees that I change my cell number also.  Not an option, this is my business number. So I pushed hard for an answer. So on my ENV2, once it was reactivated, this is the directions to cancel Backup Assistant:
click "center key"
click "Media Center"
click "Browse & Download"
click "Backup Assistant"
click "Options" (right soft key?)
click "Cancel Subscription" (center key)
click "yes"
You should be able to do this from home, if you want. I would just suggest calling from a land line.
Hope this helps.
Susan

Thanks! My new phone is the BlackBerry Storm ... if I remember right (ha) I think they told me that BlackBerry does not have that feature and one must download a CD on your computer and back up your BB ... something I have yet to do! Soooo .... I will need for them to cancel my BB first, reactivate my Voyager, cancel my Backup assistant (which they actually encouraged me to keep) ... then cancel my Voyager and re-activate the BB.  Great way to spend a Saturday!   What is so ironic about all this is that a Sprint rep encouraged me to google the 118 number and read what others were doing!  Funny a Verizon employee didn't think of that!

It sounds like you got it. reactivate, cancel, cancel, activate, load CD, backup contacts.
I was soooooo excited that I posted the solution on 3 web sites. Now if we could just get Verizon to learn this. Smiley Happy
Have a FUN Saturday.
