Recently switch to Verizon from ATT. Now incoming texts are getting split into multiple messages

I have an LG G6 unlocked.  While I was on ATT messages worked fine from all carriers.  Long sms messages would come as one long message.  I recently switched to Verizon and now simple sms messages are split into multiple messages.  I get 3 or 4 notifications and often these texts aren't in the correct order.  What's going on?
