Honestly, I don't care how long this has been going on for and it has only been since January. Also, those phones never needed a data plan so why have one now. Its people like you that deal with Verizon's crap but I'm not. I could use the internet on my laptop don't need it on my phone. Data plans are more for business people. Nobody wants to pay $90 a month. Plus Verizon looks **bleep** because TMobile has talk, text and internet for $50 and Sprint has all of that for $70 so what do you think now?

I think that you have the right to change to one of those inferior carriers if you choose to.  The reason their plans are so cheap is because that is the ONLY way they can get customers and they still have higher churn than the big 2.  I don't take Verizon's crap, in fact, I use what I consider to be their superior network and service.   If you think Verizon looks *bleep* because of the second rate carriers price plans, then please feel free to switch to them.

I dont think Barb or anyone else needs your permission to switch if they aren't happy, but I bet it makes them feel better about it knowing that your ok with it.

Here's an idea.  Offer a better phone for people who don't need internet.  One with a full screen/touch screen, better than 1.3 camera, sizeable keyboard for those of us with big thumbs and mp3 capability.  Is this not possible?   The best phone available right now without the data plan falls far short of this.  Or is it really that you want people to have to pay the data fees to get the phone they want whether they need internet or not?  I'd pay more money upfront for a better phone if it were available.

So once they offer one with all your requirements but the camera is only a 2.0MP you"ll be complaining about not having a 3.2MP and then once one of those shows up you'll want the 4MP that the new 3GMM phones have right?

Bottom line is that no matter what they do, somebody will be on here complaining about lack of choice.

Actually, the phone that met your needs was the Motorola Rival.  It had a 2.0Mp camera, MP3 media player and could hold a 16GB micro SD card.  Would I be right in assuming you find something about that phone unacceptable?

Again, thanks for letting us complain about the phones we don't like and why we don't like them. Why you take it as a personal attack is beyond me. "The phone that met your needs..." are you really pushing a phone that doesn't exist anymore? The data plan that met our needs was the one we didn't have to pay for.

The Rival is still available in some stores.  I was pointing out that for the first couple months of the data requirements, there was a phone that met the exact needs described.  That still doesn't stop folks from complaining.  I don't take your or anybody else's complaints as a personal attack.  But quite frankly what started out as conversation objecting to a less than customer friendly policy change had deteriorated to senseless whining that is mostly supported by inaccurate information.

The problem is that not everyone comes up for renewal at the same time, for those that are just coming up on their NE2 this now becomes a new problem for them. I did not look at this untill it was time  to upgrade and did not know about these changes. What was avaible a month ago  doesn't help those that have just come to this point now. It will  take 2 years for this to cycle through. So please keep your cool and help those of us that can be. The inaccurate info will probably continue and all we can do is try to correct it .This goes for both sides of the conversation.

{word filter avoidance} Admit it.  Verizon screwed up.  The fact is they left us with little choice.  A very basic phone or pay the data plan.  And the Rival was not offered to me in the store a week ago when I went in to "downgrade" my phone.   An agent I talked to on the phone mentioned it, but then said it was apparently no longer available and it wasn't showing up on line.  Also, it had very poor reviews.  I don't  believe the customer is always right, but a company should try to satisfy their customers demands and there is a demand out there for a better non-data plan phone.

You mentioned the Rival....yes, I would have liked to get that one, but you "DO" have to have a data package with that one too.  I should be able to buy whatever phone I want and pay for the services that I use.

I notice online there are only 4 phones now available and none have a QWERTY keyboard.

20 smart phones, 12 3GMM, 13 Feature, several with qwerty online Just looked

The Rival is no longer listed on the site  when it was it was Data Optional not required

No argument here it would be nice to have more choice of phone and which plan.

This is infuriating.  I have a Samsung Omnia I can't activate b/c I refuse to pay for a data plan.  How can a company claim to value their customers and proceed to try to suck them dry?  If I am trying to be frugal (a virtue, as our society seems to have forgotten), I can't enjoy a nice phone.  I got it for $30 from a friend, so it's not like I even spent any money up front.  So why am I complaining? Because it is beyond reasonable doubt that this policy means  "I value you as a customer, but I value your money more."  I don't want to give you a good experience on our network, I just want your money.
