You can send or forward a text message to your email address, yes. Just type the email address into the "TO" field instead of typing in a contact name or phone number. Then log on to your email on your computer and view it, save the picture, etc.
The new backup assistant plus http://products.verizonwireless.com/index.aspx?id=fnd_backupAssistantPlus is how you would use MyVerizon or the verizon website to manage your photos online.
If your phone supports a microSD card, you can save the photos attached to text messages by dowloading to your phone and saving to your card. You can then transfer the photos from the card to your PC, either via USB cable, or a card reader, or even via bluetooth.
