I received an extremely rude / personal text message from a Miami, FL number that I don't know. The text contained information that could be discovered on social media (name of boyfriend /girlfriend) if the sender was a facebook friend, but otherwise it would not be available. I attempted to call and text the number but it did not process. I then googled the number, and found several online posts from people I have no association with that detailed similar harrassing text messages from that number. Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter, or know what Verizon or Law Enforcement may be able to do about it? It seems as if the text was from a spoofed number, and I'm concerned that someone may have hacked into either my Verizon account, or some other social media account.

RMH48,
I am sorry to hear about this message you have received. What exact message did you receive when you tried to call the number? Have you attempted to block the number with the call/messaging block feature? http://vz.to/1sYEMlG Was there specific VZW account information in the text message? If so, I would suggest going in and resetting your My Verizon account password. http://vz.to/1IP6LtW

When I attempted to dial the number, there was no dial tone or response
msg...I called via skype, and it indicated that this was an "invalid
number". I have not attempted to block the number (as of yet, the harassing
text was a single occurrence). There was no VZW specific information in the
message, but I reset my password nonetheless. Does VZW have a means of
determining whether a text was sent from a spoofed number? Seems like this
would require minimal electronic forensics.

Thanks for the additional information RMH48! I understand your concerns about this message and you have done the right thing by resetting your password to protect your privacy. We are unable to determine if the messages was sent from a spoofed number but we provide a tool http://vz.to/1khRJVM to block the number.
