If you're using Verizon's Message+ app, you can try opening the menu (the three lines on the top-left in the app) and selecting Restore Messages. If you're using an iPhone, you can also restore the phone to a recent backup if you have one. If you're using an Android phone and had the Verizon Cloud app doing backups, you may also be able to restore the messages from there by opening the menu and selecting Tools, then Content Restore.
