Text messages not "downloading"

I have a samsung illusion and most of my text messages that I recieve (multimedia) are downloading and not displaying the message. they are small 2-3KB per message. I don't know what is causing them to download for an extended period of time and just not display the message. Can anyone help?

I have a prepaid plan and I am current on payments.

I have it set on that, I increased the limit on number of messages, seems to be working.
