After 4 store visits and many phone calls to Verizon support I finally got my issue resolved in under 3 minutes (could not send text messages to non-apple devices, I have an apple phone). Verizon support identified Apple hardware as the issue. Apple said it was a provisioning issue with the line. I am so happy the issue is fixed I can't bother to figure the hours of my life lost on bad support.
