Verizon and their text messaging plans are crazy

I love Verizon and they do a lot of work to stay one of the best networks but whats up with their text messaging plans.  All my friends that are on ATT, Sprint, and T-Mobile get unlimited text messaging to anybody for $10.  I get Unlimited IN and only 500 to others for $10.  My family doesn't want the family plan that has unlimited texting because I'm the only texter in the family, Verizon needs to get real here.  Text messages are less than 1KB each, I can rent a 5000GB server for $10 bucks a month... They really need to remake their texting plans.  They remade all data plans but didn't do anything with texting plans, seriously...?

Wireless service is very competitive. Until VZW feels the need/pressure to change their plans due to competition, then they will. But don't loose any sleep over it, because VZW moves as fast in updating its plans and phones as a glacier does.

AT&T has exactly the same pricing for text messaging as VZW does. Check their website for details. T-Mobile and Sprint get lower rates for unlimited text messaging because they have the fewest amount of subscribers, so having an unlimited "in network" package doesn't really work for them. Sprint and T-Mo have more competitive rates because they're losing customers faster than anybody and they have less customers than AT&T and VZW, so they'll go further to keep their customers and it costs less for them to maintain their customer base.

All in all the wireless industry in general is ridiculous when it comes to text messaging rates. It should be $.01 for a text, not $.20

So does VZW. For single lines unlimited messaging is only $20. For family share plans unlimited messaging is $30 for both VZW and AT&T. Trust me, I've done my research. You can too. Look for the "Messaging Features" box. $20 for single lines, $30 for family share lines.

Misinformation leads to misjudging something, which is why I think your initial feelings of VZW's texting plans was "crazy". Single lines can, in fact, get unlimited messaging. As previously stated unlimited messaging for a single line is only $20 more. You can find the details of this under the Single line plan page.

You'll see that the 450minute basic plan is $39.99. The next plan is the Select plan which is $59.99. The Select plan is what gives a line unlimited messaging. The Connect and Premium plans also give you unlimited messaging, but include additional features like data usage, email and navigation. This holds true for all single line plans, whether 450 minutes or unlimited minutes, unlimited texting is only $20 more for single lines. The only plans that CANNOT have unlimited messaging to everyone are Nationwide + Canada, Nationwide + Mexico, Nationwide Loyalty plan and the 65+ plans.

Check your current plan details to see what you're paying for and then check with Customer Service to see if it's the right plan for you, if not CS can help you make whatever changes you need to get you on right plan for you.

Hope this helps clear up some confusion.
