Sometimes it works for some users, sometimes it doesn't. No consistent responses from Verizon regarding exactly why it fails and when/if it will stabilize. You just have to try it to see if it works for you.
A single email from my gmail account to my number at vtext dot com worked for me just now and to number at vzwpix dot com worked as well. The texts were delivered within a minute.

Thanks, I had the same experience. Seems to work now. Would be nice if a Verizon rep would confirm. Originally they said gmail accounts were flooding their system with SPAM, so they blocked gmail. anyone from Verizon like to comment

Hi there! The vtext service is no longer available to new customers, and may not work for everyone as it has been retired or phased out.

Why then is the following still on the FAQ page for messaging on the My Verizon web site??? Can you provide the official statement or link to it on some web site from Verizon that 'the vtext service is no longer available' ??

This is an uninformed answer since it is not a service for specific Verizon customers. It is a capability for anyone to send a text message to a Verizon customer from their email. It appears that gmail addresses have been blocked.

Juan, is this an April Fool's joke? I have spent hours trying to get an answer about this. I even opened a ticket by phone with Verizon Support - {edited for privacy}. Now Verizon can't find it.
The issue is that a large air conditioning cooling tower system in the complex where I live uses control software that sends a vtext.com message from a gmail address to maintenance personnel when a problem occurs. Last September the messages were blocked and didn't get through, creating some major issues with residents' air conditioning systems. It personally cost me $2400.
Why doesn't someone at Verizon understand the issue. It's all over your forum!
