What happened to voice(speech) to text on the phone?

Before the Android system upgrade, I was able to do voice to text messaging on my phone.In other words, I was able to speak into the phone and it would convert to text. I found it convenient since I didn't have to type.  Now it seems there is only audio texting.  Is that no longer an option?

I have the LG Transpyre.  I finally went into settings on my phone to keyboard and added Google voice.  The microphone on the keyboard finally appeared.  Thanks for your help.
