When I send a text from the Verizon message app it does not appear on my iPhone. The text is received correctly and it does appear on the app but not in the iPhone text area. All text sent to me do appear on the message app.

Apps authored by Apple do not always play well with others. If you want the text to show up in your iMessage app(i.e. "iPhone text area"), you should send it from your iMessage app.
