I have had Verizon Messages app on my Windows 10 PC for at least a couple of years. Today I got this text message:
VZW Free Msg: NOTICE - Action required By October 1, 2021. Verizon has detected that you have an older Windows Message+ app on one or more devices that will need to be upgraded. You may no longer have access through your Windows Message+ application after October 1, 2021 and will be required to upgrade to continue using the app. Please click to access the latest version of Message+: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/verizonmessages/9plsfg6pjz50#activetab=pivot:overviewtab
I clicked the link and followed through with the download onto my laptop. When finished, I clicked the "launch" button and got this message:
Message+
You have an outdated version of Message+ on your Windows Device. If you proceed, your old version will be uninstalled and your messages will be transferred and stored locally on the new Windows+ app.
There are two buttons:
SKIP - which ends the install
PROCEED - this brings up a window with a button that says "Start messaging." When I click that, the next window asks for my Device Name and Verizon Wireless number and says "To make sure we have the right number, we'll send a text message to your phone. After entering those and hitting the "submit" button, it sends the code. After entering the code and hitting the "verify" button, a get a screen saying:
ERROR!
You have an incompatible version of Message+ on your primary device. Please upgrade your primary device with the latest version of Message+, then try again.
It gives me the option of sending an upgrade link to my phone which I did.
When I open the link, it shows uninstall or open, there is no update option. I assume that means I have the latest version (phone shows version 7.3.8).
So what's going on with this? How do I get the new Message+ app to work on my windows 10 laptop?

The specific error message reads:
Please download the latest version of Message+ from the app store in your primary device and try again.

We deeply apologize for this experience, JR5353. Message+ no longer is supported for Windows 10. So if it stopped working with your PC, then the trouble shooting steps will not work to fix the issue you are experiencing with it.

Well isn't that a fine how-do-you-do... Sounds like others on this forum using Windows 10 on their PC are getting it to work. Anyone here know of another app that will work on a Windows 10 PC with a VZ iPhone and Android tablet? Really miss not being able to type messages on my PC.

AND...
If its not supported any longer for Windows 10, why is it on the Microsoft App Store, and why does it specifically state it works for Windows 10? Knew I should have gone with T-Mobile when I upgraded last week...

Are you sure, Steven? The Win10 M+ app re-appeared in the Microsoft Store, with a new version 3.0.0.

From VZ
Verizon Messages Windows Desktop client feature is no longer available for new downloads. As an alternative you can use Verizon Messages Web client to send and receive messages from your desktop computer.
Thanks,
VZM Team.

Understood. What was the sequence? Did you uninstall from your primary device and leave it uninstalled WHILE installing the Win10 app on your PC?

No, reinstalled to primary, then to PC.

When I had that exact message/issue, I had to uninstall from primary, then install on PC and then re-install on primary to get it to work. That sequence only worked for me to get Win10 app installed with my android primary.

Uninstalled from iPhone and Android tablet, installed on PC, and got same error message. Thankfully was able to reinstall on iPhone and Tablet. Tried on PC again, and same error message.

We totally understand, JR5353. We are very sorry, but if it is not working on your PC, then there is nothing that can be done. Are you wanting to use that service on your phone or tablet?

Isn't there a Verizon Messaging Team (VZM) that supports the Message+ service and apps? What do they say, Steven? You may be 'very sorry', but there IS something you can do. Refer this to/open a ticket with the VZM Team and get them involved!!!

Is it working on ANY PC?
I can download to any number of Windows 10 PCs, all with current updates:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/verizonmessages/9plsfg6pjz50?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
It will install and launch fine on any Windows 10 PC, it will prompt me for a PIN code, I will receive the 6 digit pin on my iPhone, and enter it correctly.
And on every PC and with every attempt, it will reject the valid PIN code with a message that I need to install the latest version on my "primary device". However, I do HAVE the latest version of the Message+ app re-installed onto my iPhone.
Is there anyone at VZW who actually ever has ATTEMPTED this with Windows 10?

Yes, I have the Win10 M+ v3.0.0 app installed on my PC. As stated in other posts, I received the same 'out-of-date app on primary device' error message. I uninstalled/backed-off updates on my Android phone and while it was in that state, installed successfully the app on my PC. I then updated the M+ app on my primary device (Android phone) to the current/same original version without losing anything. The desktop app has issues documented in other posts and in the reviews on the Microsoft Store. I've see lots of posts where iPhone primary devices are not successful in the resolution I found.

It is broken, but not broken enough that I quit. It is purgatory.
I have two computers, work and home.
The work computer does not have any names showing up, just numbers save for ONE name. Why on earth is there one name showing up. It is no different that the others.
At home, the names show up. Therefore I do not think it is my phone or the My Verizon settings.
I have a Samsung and thought about using the other apps, but the Verizon Message+ App handles photos better. I need the photo feature for work. I can look at the media quite quickly on the Desktop App.

@letti001 I believe VZ Customer Support has terminated further discussion on this issue. They have already said nothing can be done, Messenger+ will no longer work on PC's...so move along nothing to see here...

There seems to be a disconnect between VZ Customer Support and the VZM Team (support for Verizon Message Apps). I have been actively communicating with the VZM Team via e-mail about the issue with the current Windows 10 App. They state "We are aware of this issue and working on it. We will update you ASAP."
It's not that nothing more can be done. It seems that there is not good interaction between VZ Customer Support and VZM Team.

@vzw_customer_support That is a pretty useless answer. Is Customer Support offshore somewhere? These answers seem to be coming from a FAQ book .
It is clear VZ has a Win10 version posted on MS download store..yet some "Customer Support" answers still say there is no Win10 version?
Another says "sorry nothing can be done".???
Why dont you forward this widespread issue on to whoever codes this buggy app and tell them to fix it!?

I sent some time today chatting with support about the issue. They stated they would escalate to developers. They also recommended e-mailing verizonmessages @ verizonwireless.com with the error you are receiving.
