Windows Message+ App

I have had Verizon Messages app on my Windows 10 PC for at least a couple of years.  Today I got this text message:

VZW Free Msg: NOTICE - Action required By October 1, 2021. Verizon has detected that you have an older Windows Message+ app on one or more devices that will need to be upgraded. You may no longer have access through your Windows Message+ application after October 1, 2021 and will be required to upgrade to continue using the app. Please click to access the latest version of Message+: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/verizonmessages/9plsfg6pjz50#activetab=pivot:overviewtab

I clicked the link and followed through with the download onto my laptop.  When finished, I clicked the "launch" button and got this message:

Message+
You have an outdated version of Message+ on your Windows Device. If you proceed, your old version will be uninstalled and your messages will be transferred and stored locally on the new Windows+ app.

There are two buttons:

SKIP - which ends the install

PROCEED - this brings up a window with a button that says "Start messaging." When I click that, the next window asks for my Device Name and Verizon Wireless number and says "To make sure we have the right number, we'll send a text message to your phone. After entering those and hitting the "submit" button, it sends the code. After entering the code and hitting the "verify" button, a get a screen saying:

ERROR!
You have an incompatible version of Message+ on your primary device. Please upgrade your primary device with the latest version of Message+, then try again.

It gives me the option of sending an upgrade link to my phone which I did.

When I open the link, it shows uninstall or open, there is no update option. I assume that means I have the latest version (phone shows version 7.3.8).

So what's going on with this?  How do I get the new Message+ app to work on my windows 10 laptop?

Pretty much only way is to provide feedback to the 'developers' via the app.  You might also describe which 'problem(s)' you're seeing, in case you have others not already reported.

Well version 1.0.1 still works fine...on all my Windows 7.  I guess the trick was never to update

But all the other software I use on my work computer required an upgrade to Windows 10, so I cannot simply go back to Windows 8, or 7 .....

I can't say that I'm lucky that I was able to install the "newer" version because it's a terrible replacement for the previous version.  But at least I got it installed on Windows 10 desktop.  But it doesn't sync - I can hear the message come in on my phone, but the same message never arrives on the desktop.  If I send a message from the desktop, it syncs onto my phone almost immediately.

The bare minimum of functions are all that you can do on this junk version.  I somehow have two entries for the same person, but with a different phone number (no idea why - it's not on my phone that way, and I've never received a message from this person and the odd number).  I tried to delete the erroneous contact.  Can't do it on the desktop.

I came on the forum to see if there was any new info about this junk software - a fix, an update coming soon.  It is so frustrating to read the responses from VZW staff - half the time their responses make it clear that they didn't read thru a post and the other half the help offered is either obsolete, offers broken links to a phantom download, or doesn't address the issue.  (I'm having an issue trying to get a straight answer from Logi***h, so it's not just VZW.  Outsourced Support s**ks.  (trying to post this, I had to correct an issue before it would post.  Apparently, SUC*S is  a "bad word" - a bad word????  Are we in kindergarten or something???)

I got the same notice and thought it was a hoax and sent it to [email address removed per the Verizon Terms of Service].  Have heard nothing back, but today Message+ quit working on my Windows 10 PC with the same error message about not having the latest version on my primary device.  I've reloaded on all devices and still does not work on the PC.

I have a similar problem with my HP Desktop, Dell laptop and Kindle HD.

Upgrades are either hung up with no response when trying to confirm phone or error messages

Messaging on Galaxy phone continues to work.

This "upgrade" seems to be a disaster!

Hello, no need to fear, help is here! Have you tried to restart your device to see if the issue continues? When was the last time you updated the software?~David

Found this thread searching for different undocumented feature with the PC version of Message+.

This is what worked for me to get it installed and configured....

Launch Message+ on your PHONE.

Select the three lines in top left corner.

Then Settings > Account > Manage Devices

Disconnect the computer you are attempting to install the PC version on.

Retry the install on your PC.

Hopefully this works for you.

Nope, didn't work.  I've disconnected from all devices, removed the app completely from all devices, reinstalled one at a time, and still the Windows 10 PC will not work.  I give up, and will be looking for other solutions.  Probably going to switch to T-Mobile soon anyway, don't get 5G coverage in my house hardly at all (one bar if I'm close to a window, and it's not a metal house).

Thank you for trying that. I found some additional information, to use the web app instead of the desktop app. If the desktop version of the app is not compatible with your version of Windows, you may consider the web app. To use the web app, go here: http://spr.ly/6607JpP8x and select "Go to the web app". -Jordan

Sorry, but have you clicked on this link?

It leads to a "Download the Desktop App" link.

This is known as a circular solution. An endless loop of going nowhere.

Just curious but are there any third party apps that work? Samsung Message? Android Message?

Is anybody moving on from Verizon Message+ for desktop 3.0 failing to work (even though v1.0 and 2.0 worked well)?

Or are we not permitted to ask this question on the Verizon Community site?

I am not sure about everyone else, but I find the desktop app very helpful as I am able to work and respond to texts by typing with a keyboard and also review photos sent to me. It is hard to do all these things on a phone. I am not a young person. I watch my daughter fire away on the phone. I cannot do that. It is business tool for me.

Cheers to all!

Yes, I've tried the web link, and it works on Windows 10, but having to leave this web page open all the time just to get messages is a pain.  And not sure if it even stays open for ever.

And the VZ web site still says Windows 10 should work.  Does VZ Support not work for VZ?

I sincerely apologize for the hassle as we wan to see you have the best experience through every platform to help you stay with us.  I apologize the online resources have not been updated or clarified. Windows 10 is supported if downloaded prior to 9/5/2019 and has not been reinstalled or updated since that time. I am sorry as the latest downloadable app is not compatible with Windows 10. We will use your feedback to improve the resources and the products we offer!   -Yale

Should we install Windows 8.1?

I had The previous version up and running but received a notification that it would be a forced stop of usage and that I needed to use the new version.

Is it not possible for v2 or v1 to be installed and that we can go back to a working version?

This version 3 seems like a beta release that is not doing well.

Are you verifying that we should install Windows 8.1 in order to have Message+ for Desktop work?

Thank You!  This helped me.  Apparently, my Message+ on my phone was not actually activated either, and that was preventing me from doing this.  I found that when attempting your suggestion.
