You can call customer service and ask them to block mobile web access.

You can log on to your account at MyVerizon and go to I want to... on the right side of the screen and choose Change Features to add blocks for specific items.  Mobile web block doesn't seem to be one of the choices anymore....so maybe you need to call CS anyway.

Something to keep in mind.  Even if you have an internet block put on, it does not include access to "Get it Now"  In other words, if your son goes out to to "Get it Now" even to just LISTEN (not purchase) to ringtones, the $1.99 per mb data charge will be applied.

This happened to my daughter recently.  I called CS and asked whey she was able to get to the ringtone site if I had a web block applied.  She said that "Get it Now" is NOT part of the web block.  If you want to block that, she would also lose her texting capabilities.

There is NO escaping their "nickle and diming"!

There is a media center block that can be added that will prevent the user from accessing the media center formerly known as Get it Now.  Once the feature is added you would not incur any charges for data usage unless you have a previously downloaded an application on the phone. If you have previously downloaded an application on the phone and you get the media center block added to your account, then decide later you want to play the downloaded application you had purchased before the block was added you will incur data charges on the bill for that particular application. After applying the block if the media center is attempted to be accessed it will prevent the user from gaining access to the media center on the handset. You can visit this link  http://support.vzw.com/information/blocks_comparison.html      to read about blocking the media center from the handset.

In addition you can sign into your my verizon account and add the service blocks. Once you sign into the account you will have to select,Verizon Safeguards> Parental Controls  on the right had side of that page you should see where it has add/remove blocks. Click here to sign into your online account. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/index.html?tab=myaccount

If you accidentally hit the buttons you will get charged the minimum of $1.99 just because it tries to connect.  I know this for a fact because I did it on accident once and we have the block.  I figure that's better than if my phone is stolen and they can get on and rack up bigger charges.  Now I am just carefully with my button pushing.  Mary

that is not true. blocking any sort of web doesnt also block texting. it will affect PICTURE messaging though.

it is physcially impossible for a data block to also block text messaging, as they operate on 2 different systems.

I'm sorry, I probably didn't explain well enough.  You are correct, the basic data block does not prevent texting.  However, they did tell me that if I wanted to block access to "Get it Now", it would also affect texting

i dont see how that is possible. text and data have NOTHING to do with each other.

There are two different types of signals 1X and EVDO. Text messages come on 1X which is the same as voice calls and EVDO is for data that has to be downloaded. When we add the block to eliminate internet use, it blocks the EVDO portion of your handset. Picture messages would not be able to be sent or received when this block is placed on the account.
