cannot receive texts from at&t service phones

Help.

Just ported number from at&t prepaid to verizon prepaid. Have received texts from verizon and sprint customers, but texts from at&t customers are not coming through.  Why?

If you JUST ported, the entire port may not be complete. If after a couple days you still can not get those msgs, you will need to call in.

I had this same problem when I ported my phone number over  from Virgin Mobile to Verizon. I could send or receive messages from ATT. For 3 months I went round and round, ATT said it was on the Verizon end and Verizon said it was on the ATT end.  I called Virgin Mobile and they said it was not on there end either. I was  on the phone with customer service everyday for 3 months, and they were great and tryed everything and could not figure it out.  So I had my number changed and everything was fine, but I still wanted to know why I had this problem, I went on the Virgin Mobile web site and read every word of the contract and somewhere in there in very very small print there was a clause about if you could only send text messages from a virgin mobile phone. I was able to text Verizon and Virgin mobile but not ATT. I think because they have a certain amount  of available numbers in an area that different cell companies don't want  to have to many of there numbers ported out.  Good Luck in trying to get yours fixed.

CORRECTION

 I could NOT send or receive messages from ATT.   I went on the Virgin Mobile web site and read every word of the contract and somewhere in there in very very small print there was a clause about if you could only send text messages from a virgin mobile phone --since the number was a virgin mobile number it would not let me sent texts to ATT. I did not try any other companies only att and verizon and virgin mobile. ATT was the only one I could not text to.

I can text TO AT&T, but not receive FROM them.  So far.  Taking budone and the great one's advice and playing the waiting game right now and will try again tonight.

I have a very old number from Cingular (yeah, before AT&T) which was ported to Verizon and now I realize that I do not receive texts from AT&T service phones.  I've had both AT&T and Verizon techs try to fix, but I'm told that the problem cannot be solved - AT&T account too old to research.  I've had the same phone number for a LONG time and really don't want to change it...any other solutions out there??? Can I port the number again?

Everything is working OK now.  Thank you budone and thegreatone.  Much easier than going through customer support.
