incoming and outgoing texts merged

somethng very strange happened today.  I received a text from someone today.  It was the first few words of the text he was trying to send me and a few words he received in a text from another person at the same time.

 

I have never seen this happen before.  Was it a freak occurrence because the texts were sent and received at exactly the same time?
