Why is my son receiving messages during restricted hours?

I have time restrictions set on my son's phone.  He is receiving text messages during restricted hours from someone that is not on the trusted contacts list.  Wifi at house is disabled as well.  Why is he still receiving  texts during restricted hours?

iPhone, and iMessages?  Or another app that doesn't use the phone number for communications?
