$20 Monthly Service Fee for 12-Months on Transferred Phones

I was referred here by Verizon Live Chat.

Upon retirement, I purchased my company phone from them, and kept my company phone number as my new personal phone number.  I have been told that I must pay a $20/MO Service Fee for this transfer.  I tried to cancel this for well over an hour, and I was told that it will be in place for 12-months, regardless of the phone (as I suggested I could upgrade to a newer model phone).

I am not going to pay $240 for no reason just to stay with Verizon.  As I indicated, other carriers will let me keep my phone number if I switch both my wife and my accounts.

Also, being directed to a "community bulletin board" as the last stage of Verizon's resolution process is a bit ridiculous as I don't see any possible way that this resolves anything directly with my situation, certainly not before I make a decision as to who I want to associate with going forward..

JS2118, we certainly want to resolve all our customers concerns when they first contact us and not refer them elsewhere, I am sorry to learn that this was not the case when you contacted us via chat. I can imagine your surprise when you were advised of the fee. We will be more than happy to look into this further for you.

When you transfer service, you would need to move to a current plan; what plan were you looking to move to? Was there any other explanation outside of transferring the number that $20.00 would bill monthly? When you stated you purchased the phone from the company, did you have a device payment plan or contract? Please share the details.   -Tionna

I have tried twice to reply to your questions, and I was disconnected from this site both times.  If you truly want to resolve this and discontinue these ongoing $20/month charges, call me.  If not, I will move my wife and my service to another wireless provider.

Thanks,

We can assure you that our goal is to help and provide clarity to this whole situation. Usually, when you see that charge is due to a contract that was not over on the other account. To investigate further we need to access your account. We've sent a Private Note, please meet us there. ~Gina

Verizon Customer Support,

I am done trying to communicate/resolve this issue via Verizon Community.  Your instructions do not work.  There is no username at the upper right-hand side of the community, and clicking on the envelope does nothing.

I have already spent hours on this issue, and I have yet to talk to a real person at Verizon who accessed my account.  You don't need me to tell you any more, you can read what I wrote already and look up my Verizon Account yourself by using my cell phone number.  Please e-mail me at: [email address removed per the Verizon Terms of Service] or call my cell phone: and resolve this or I am going to close this matter once and for all by cancelling my wife and my account with Verizon.

If you don't see your profile in the upper right then you are not logged in to get at the private message they sent you so log in then look there.  If it's still not working try logging in from a different browser.

There's no "service fee" for transfering a line. If you're being charged an extra $20 a month on top of your regular service, it's something else.

The phone is either not paid off fully or under a service contract still since you did mention this was a company phone. Businesses still get 2 year contract deals in exchange for a phone discount. Either would have been outlined upon accepting the line.

You may have paid the company money for the phone, but that is irrelevant if the line itself still had some sort of obligation attached to it.
