55+ Unlimited offer

Just got off the phone with Verizon Customer Service.  She tried, but was unable to help.  I am 57, and wanted to save some funds by switching to the 55+ Unlimited plan shown on the Verizon Site.  Was told that although I met all the eligibilities and requirements, including auto pay, living in Florida, over 55 (both of us), as well as a Verizon customer for 12+ years and I was told that I needed to be "offered" this plan.  However, there is nothing on the Verizon site that states it was an "offer" and that anyone could receive it by contacting Customer Service.  Not true.  I was told that I could not get it because it was not an option on my account.

Furthermore, when I contacted the Chat, I was told it was not even offered anymore and where did I find the info.  After stating it was on the Verizon site, they said that I could get the Start Unlimited plan and save $20.  Decided it was not worth it and I am now looking into other carriers who will offer 55+ individuals a discount.  I hate to leave Verizon, but if I can save $50 on cellular, I need to save it.  I am not a big user, so I do not expect to here from Verizon, which is too bad.

Same issue.  Want to save money as we’re retired but unless you live in Florida, it’s apparently not available.  Have been with Verizon, and all it’s predecessors, since 1988 and don’t want to leave but other companies are out there with better options for those over 55.

@Tiredofstayinghome ,

We're sorry to hear that you want to leave us after such a long time because you're not able to get a specific data plan. This 55+ Unlimited plan came about before we started expanding discount options, and with the limited availability and strict account requirements to keep it, there are other options that include so much more for the price difference: https://www.verizon.com/plans/unlimited/ . You can always reduce your bill regardless of your plan options by completing any active device payments as well: https://www.verizon.com/support/device-payment-faqs/

Same issue, spent over 3 hours on chat the other night after being turned away in a local store because they couldn't help port my numbers. Told me I could use their phones however. Been a customer for over 20 years, recently moved to Florida and wanted the 55+ plan. Was told it had to be 'offered'. I am 64, live in Florida and according to the website am eligible but seems they choose who can get 'offered' this plan according to the agent.. Was told to call back the next day and when I did, was told my account was updated and 'if' deemed eligible, they would contact me. Customer service is going out the drain. They gave me a list of numbers and when i called the first one I had to get thru 8 sales traps, when they ask a question it kicks you into a sales pitch from lifeline to car insurance. Then was disconnected I can't say how many times. Verizon used to be one of the best companies for customer service, now it seems they have gotten so big, the little accounts don't matter. I am also on a fixed income and looking for a better deal.. Shame on you Verizon! You offer a plan to seniors but it takes a miracle to get it!  I will be shopping around.

Just move to T-Mobile. Verizon clearly shows no interest in making 55+ plans accessable. Should be a simple show proof of ID and have a code entered, but that makes too much sense.

Csch56, we'd be sad to see you leave the Verizon Wireless family. We want to make sure that we get a good look at the details of the plan and the account for you. So we can get more specific information, I'm sending you a Private Note. Please respond to that message. KevinR_VZW

After 28 years with Verizon, I ported to T-Mobile a week ago. Here is my experience after thorough testing and checking into T-Mobile.........

Verizon- $116/month for iPhone, one Apple Watch, iPad (and usually slow service that crawled) on the Get More plan. I had one to two bars of 4G that usually crawled and NO 5G.

T-Mobile- $60/month for iPhone, two Apple Watches (and blazing speeds) on the 55+ Magenta Plan. (I can add my iPad for $15 a month if I choose.) I have three to four bars of 4G AND 5G and it's fast!

The Magenta 55+ plan is 100GB per month. I will add my wife's phone soon for only an additional $20 per month.
