Add-A-Line, then immediately disconnecting smartphone - any fee/penalty?

I'm thinking of adding a line to my current family plan with a smartphone, but immediately disconnecting that and activating a basic flip-phone. Is there any penalty for doing such a thing?
Thanks!

Yes, you can do that, there is no fee/penalty involved.

You do have to option to add a line and purchase a smart phone, and then have a simple feature phone activated onto that number. However on your bill you will see a charge for the features that you added when you purchased the smart phone, but then you will see a credit for those features. Simple because we bill a month in advance.
