Anyone else have problems porting their number from another carrier?

On Thursday March 12, 2015 I walked in to a Local Verizon Store to buy a Bluetooth and in conversation i said i had a new Verizon Phone I was going to port over from Straight Talk and they said they could do that rite here so i said great that might save me some headaches, So at that time i expressed in great detail that i didn't want to do this if i would loose service on my phone number that i have had for ten years plus and the number is on thousands of business cards and some signs out side of businesses and that it is all over the internet, for this is how i make a living and they assured me there would be no problem that i would keep service on that number throughout the whole process and that the number may work on my old phone and new phone at the same time so i said lets do it well during the process my old service shut down and this is now March 17 and i still don't have my number, so when any clients or potential clients call my number it says this number has been disconnected or changed, I have been on the phone with Verizon every day since and they just give me a run around, I fear i could have lost thousands of dollars while not having my number, and new customers will not call back after getting the message that my phone has been disconnected, the last supervisor I talked to said they have done all they can do and it will happen when they get to it, Today my attorney told me to bring him all the info and contacts and work invoices i had before this happened and he will get something going on it, I just want my number back so i don't loose more money.

Dstarr, portig your number should be a rather fast and seem less process for you. I apologize that didn't happen. I would like to help. Please reach out to our port team at 888-844-7095. You may even want to speak to the port team at the new company also.   VanetrisC_VZW  Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport If my response answered your question please click the "Correct Answer" button under my response. I Ported my number, and walked out of the store with a working new phone on my old number.

I Turned off my old phone and left it off so the port can complete.  If you leave the old phone on, it messes up the port.

Was this a real Verizon store, or one of those "authorized retailers"?

TCC Verizon Wireless Premium Retailer

3626 N Sheridan Rd

Peoria, IL 61604

During the process the old number stopped working and hasn't worked since, the old phone was shut off Verizon has possession of the number but has yet been able to add it to my phone.

That's a 3rd party retailer. Are you absolutely sure the carrier isn't delaying the port.

KNOWN carriers to delay porting. Virgin Mobile, and Sprint. I seen multiple occasions they'll delay a port up to a month.

Verizon told me the port was successful they have the number and told me that my order was in a like a group of orders that had to be done in order and it would take some time, I don't know what to believe now because on the 12th i was told my new phone was going to be working by 12:30 PM on the 13th that didn't happen then on the 13th they said it would be on by the 15th didn't happen on the 15th they told me it would be today, today they told me that they didn't know for sure when but it will happen when they get to my order?

If the port was successful then you wouldn't have this problem. Did you talk to a porting agent or a cs rep?

The port from the previous carrier was successful to Verizon but the activation failed to my phone I talked to 3 porting specialists or agents who told me the dates it would work and sent emails to help push the process  i talked to many tech specialists which tried the process over and over and then a supervisor of operations who told me they have done all they could do at this point but cant give me a expected date only that it will work when they get to it

so i guess it is more an activation issue than porting since they have the number but are having difficulty activating it to my phone

Chances are your number is toast, and I think your attorney is pulling your leg. It's not a legal issue.

Make sure your old phone is turned off and stays off. Turn the new one off and on and call customer service back and have them get you over to the port center. In addition did you provide all info from straight talk including your account number? Most likely vzw may have to get them on the line. Ports are not 100 % guaranteed.

Best wishes

On the 12th Straight talk said the port was complete on the 13th Verizon said it was complete and they own the number?

as far as my attorney who thinks it is a legal issue if my number is toast I say go for it.
