Auto Pay and Gift Card

I have autopay set up on my mobile account.  I have two gift cards that I want to use to make a partial payment of my bill so there is a balance left for auto pay to pay to ensure I keep my autopay discount.  I followed the exact instructions on this forum (both on my laptop and on the my verizon app) and the payment would not go through.  I recognized the gift card balance but when I hit submit it said it could not process the payment.  I have a balance on my bill so that is not the issue.  I followed the steps:

1. got to Bill section

2. select pay bill

3. Payment options

4. Choose pay other amount

5. NO split payment

6. Enter amount

8 Select Not Now when it asks if you want to make another payment (i.e trying to get you to pay off the remaining balance).

9. select add payment method

10.  select gift card

11. add gift card number and pin

12. Select next (it shows the amount and the gift card amount)

13. Select submit.   

I get an error when it tries to process it, every time whether on the website or on the app.

How do you do that?  (Private Message)??  I'm on my laptop and I dont see that as an option.
