I want to block the text messages from Family Locator. I find them an annoyance. This is my personal phone, so it is not like I am snooping on someone. I don't care if my wife knows where I am at. I just hate the text message.

You simply need to log into Family Locator and edit the alerts that are set up. Uncheck your telephone number under who to notify and you won't be sent the text message alerts any longer. The User Guide can be found here: http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/FamilyLocator_UserGuide.pdf
