Blocking anonymous callers

Some spammer calls my phone every day from the same area code and prefix, but a different number every time. No name of course. Obviously blocking the number does no good because it's different each time. Only the area code and prefix is the same. Is there a solution to block this moron?

Thank you

GaryHB6, receiving unwanted phone calls is something that we all despise. I want to make sure to provide with a solution that we would have for this issue. First, we would recommend placing your mobile number on the National Do Not Call List. This can be completed by following this link http://spr.ly/6586DFtTQ.

We do have a great feature for our customers called; Caller Name ID. Caller Name ID alerts you of incoming spam calls and lets you report and block unwanted numbers. Check out the feature details by following this link http://spr.ly/6587DFtTv. I hope this is valuable information. Please keep us posted if you have any questions.

Either drop 2.99 a month for caller name ID or change your number. Spoof calls are probably the most annoying part of owning a cell phone.

I'm getting the same thing. Every day it's a call from (201) 215- and then the last 4 digits are different. This has happened multiple times daily for about a week now. It's impossible to block because the number is always changing. I'm on the Do Not Call registry, but obviously that does no good. I've reported it to the registry, so I'll see if that does anything, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't know how the caller ID suggestion would help. I already know it's spam and I don't pick it up. I've been on phone calls when I get the beep indicating a new call is coming in and the new call is the spammer. Additionally, even if they're blocked, they can still leave me a voicemail. I've had to delete dozens of 27 second voicemails.

The only solution I can think of is to block all calls from that area code. Is that possible?

That's correct, I already have caller ID anyway. It does nothing to help this situation because the name is always blank for the spammers. It just shows a number, different every time. If we could block the area code that would be something I'd consider, although I do know a couple people in that area code. Haven't talked to them for a long time.

And of course I've registered with the Do Not Call list multiple times. It does nothing. My landline used to get way more robo-calls than my mobile line. It was registered too. I finally abandoned that line and have one with my cable service now. They give you an easy way to block EVERYTHING except the numbers you manually enter. So I entered the numbers of my family and close friends. Not a single robo-call on that line now. Ever. That's what I want for my mobile service.

Hello, ValDon1, I appreciate that you have already registered for the National Do Not Call list, and I also have done so, at least once every two years. There is a way to use the "do not disturb" feature on your cell phone to block numbers that are not pre-programmed into your phone as trusted contacts

.

The only trouble with that is, unless you program your Doctor, dentist, hair stylist, pharmacist, distant relatives, and Publisher's Clearinghouse as trusted numbers, you will never receive calls from anyone else, who isn't on that virtual list (the last one was a little joke).

The calls you keep getting are "spoofed" and I have included a link below for to you contact the Federal Communications Commission's Consumer Complaint Center. I am surprised the callers are leaving messages but of course, you know you should never call back or give anyone private or sensitive information over the phone.

Another thing to keep in mind is, if you have ever had an unpublished number for your landline, the odds are low for receiving robo-calls unless you use that number when you make online purchases or enter sweepstakes.

Lastly, there are Spam blocking apps available like the Caller Name ID app that Verizon has for $2.99 per month. Most carriers have an enhanced app such as this, but ours is actually lower priced than our competitor's. I have also found other apps that are FREE and have the same purpose, so you have many choices to select from on either the Play store or the App store.

For more information on Spoofing and what to do to report illegal phone activity, check out this link. I hope you found this helpful.

Please for the love of god do something about these Robo calls. I am really taken back by the fact that Verizon has not been more proactive into fighting against this epidemic - Verizon is a major corporation. It should be seamless to trace the source of these unwanted calls and take some sort of legal action against the perpetrator. Or at the very least, protect their customers without charging them for additional services. At this point my only solution is to change my number - they day I change my number is the day I leave Verizon.

Today I received another robo call from [removed]; the automated message said there was a warrant out for my arrest and to call the number back. Finally being fed up - I decided to fight back by returning to call strictly to waste the time of whoever was on the other end. When they answered, it was obvious these were scammers/criminals - they laughed [removed]

Please Verizon....assemble a team to fight back against robo-callers. Its 2018, there is no excuse for this.

it is ridiculous and unconscionable that we have to pay to be able to block a caller. Person above who asks why Verizon doesn't do more to shield users from these annoying and disruptive calls need only consider how much $ extra the company makes by selling a service that, if i had a landline, would automatically come with my handset.

I like the idea of going cable for wireless; my contract is up in a few months and I'm going to explore that.

Hi Gary, I have an app called Truecaller. It blocks about 99 % of the spam that attempts to get through. won't even ring. Gives notifications of the numbers, and most times names of those who try to get through

There is also an app called Truecaller that I have on my phone that is very effective. It blocks over 99% of the calls that try to get through. Won't even ring my phone, and will give notifications of all spammers that try. My block list is several hundred. Also gives names and numbers of those {funny when I call them back with a blocked number and they deny they did, but I will send them a screen shot that they did}
