Can someone explain the $30 charge to ...

Can anyone explain the $30 charge to me that the stores are requiring from me to sign a new 2 year contract and get one of the two free phones offered in their current ad?  The chat folks simply regurgitated the script.

We have 3 phones out of contract and we have avoided changing carriers - stupid loyalty gene.  We have been with Verizon since it was named AirTouch Cellular in Ohio.

It's called the upgrade fee. That fee has been in place for quite some time now.

AT&T and Sprint charge upgrade fees as well and they actually charge more than $30

Okay.  Here's a simpler explanation.

It is what it is.

It's something that's been in place for nearly 2 years and isn't going away and has been gone over a million times here. There is no point in explaining anything unless you can say that there is some reason that you would find acceptable. If not then as I said it's moot to even discuss it.

By the way if you switch carriers  in 2 year when you go to upgrade At&t and Sprint will charge you $36 per phone upgrade fee. T-Mobile doesn't charge an upgrade fee because they no longer offer discounted upgrades. I recently upgraded my phone and I only paid the upgrade fee. Now while 100% fee would be nice I'm not complaining about getting 94% off retail.

I wonder if we are still going to see these post after April when everyone should have upgraded at least once and already been exposed to the fee or are we still going to have to read "I had no idea there has been an upgrade fee since April 2012" posts?
