Deactivating phones

I just got a new phone and swapped the number and service over. I was going to give the other phone to the in laws but its still saying it has the same number and its still showing my balance. How do I go about deactivating it?

Just do a factory reset on the phone.

I know that previously used devices can come in very handy for other family members Jepedo!

Are you still having difficulties? Was this a standard upgrade or did you change the number or ownership? What type of phone was your previous device? How long was it after you changed handsets that you attempted to activate the previous phone on your in laws account? The system will usually take 24 hours for it to recognize an inactive device. The hard reset is a great recommendation, as it will restore factory settings just like a new device.
