Device Payment Plan Experience?

Has anyone had any experience with the Device Payment Plan which allows you to purchase a new device early without being eligible for any upgrade and pay for it monthly along with your plan over 12 months?  I am considering it but am wondering if I really need to go to a store to do it or can a chat agent help me get a phone ordered or what?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If this (http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/faqs/FeaturesandOptionalServices/device-installment-plan....) is what you're talking about - I used it when it barely started (maybe two weeks or so after). It was a real pain at that time, as nobody knew how to process it, etc. It has to (as far as I know) be done in store, no other way (maybe CS can do it over the phone, but I haven't seen the option online).
