Don’t Fall for Trade-In Scam

* Especially important for those with a working older phone that’s paid for and you don’t have to have the latest phone each time they are released.

Pay close attention to the sales rep if you are due for an upgrade. The Verizon trade-in program is a total scam. Verizon is lying to customers in order to sell phones. If you are unlikely to get a new phone unless you have to, you are especially at risk. It’s a tragedy and an injustice. Like others have posted with these message boards, I was told I’d receive $200 for each of the iPhone 6s that I traded-in. I was assured that it was the best promotion at the time with no other restriction. The phones were in great condition with no cracked screens or any other issues. I knew something was up when I didn’t get the shipping label and envelopes to send the phones in. I have to call to get those sent to me. They only send a label. Then, I send them in and I’ve heard absolutely NOTHING.

I have called back 5 or 6 times and each time, I’m told something different. I give them the info they ask for and I’m told to do something else or to supply additional details. Each time I’m told that my contact is recorded and notes are added to the file. I also was told that my online purchase transaction also was recorded, yet when I call, I’m always told something different in response to my questions about why I don’t yet have a credit. I’ve even had reps confirm the promotion I received but yet, I still have not had anything credited back to my account. Why LIE to customers? WHY? I’ve been a customer for nearly 20 years. I see that means nothing as well. This is the absolute worst experience I’ve had with a company in a very long time and I hope other customers read this post to avoid being victimized by yet another greedy company.

An iPhone 6 series is definitely  not worth  $200 in market value, try  closer to $35. It would only be worth as much if the promo happened to be one requiring a new line add.

Even if you did qualify for a high trade-in, you wouldn't  be getting hundreds off  retail up front. You would see that spread  over 24 months.

The biggest point you’re missing - what is being advertised and told to customers vs what you may have experienced are very different. Please don’t discount my experience and the similar experiences of others because they are different from yours. I like many others are well aware that the discount would be spread over time - when added together, it totals a sum, which is what was referenced. Others have been lied to as well and have stated so on other boards/posts. It sounds like you may have had a better experience and that’s great, but it’s unfortunate that others weren’t as fortunate. Please consider urging Verizon to treat all customers with the better service that it seems like you received instead of assuming that reports like mine are false based on what you experienced or what you were told.

We appreciate your feedback, and we will use it to improve our processes moving forward, holland05. I'm sorry for this experience with your trade-in, and we would like an opportunity to get a second opinion on this experience. I sent you a Private Note so we can continue working on this together and get additional information.
