Hey everyone. I have a question regarding upgrades. My father just had a contract finished with tmobile and is looking to switch to Verizon because of the better network. He doesn't care about the phone he uses but I have been wanting the Note 3 for sometime and think this is a good time to do it. I basically want him to buy the phone at the discounted price but let me use it instead. here are some other details that are important:
- we are on two separate plans. I am on a family plan (with a max of 5 lines) and he will be creating a new separate account
- i have unlimited data which I want to keep
- Will the Verizon Edge program allow me to do this as well? As long as we keep up with the monthly payments, does Verizon have any restriction on buying a Note 3 but using another phone, like the S3, as long as the monthly payments are still made?
- Lastly, from my understanding, if my father signs up for the 2 year contract, he would buy the phone at the discounted price --> activate it on his line --> deactivate it/use a dumb phone --> i would then switch my s3 to his note 3 --> he would activate my original s3 on his new account.
Does this work? Any and all feedback is appreciated.

The scenario you outlined above would work. And you would keep your unlimited data. He would have a Share Everything single line account.

We appreciate your interest in bringing over another family member mitzuoka! Edge is an exciting program that provides the option to upgrade more frequently! Please be aware however; the devices are full retail price. There is no discount. Payments are spread out over 24 months. I have included additional information below on Edge. If you are looking to gain the lowest price on a new device like the Note 3, a new two-year agreement would be your best option on the new line. http://tiny.cc/vszg5w, http://tiny.cc/ztzg5w

overcomplicating it. He buys phone -> he activates phone -> turn both phones off, swap SIM cards. DONE.

Hey there mitzuoka,
You ask a great question which I would be more than happy to answer. If you activated the Note 3 on your number and your old phone on his number than everyone would keep their same numbers.
Keep in mind that if the Note 3 is purchased on your Dad's account but transferred to your account the manufactures warranty will be voided.
