Got scammed on trading in my phones

A few months ago I was going to purchase a new phone as the one I had was shattered beyond repair.  I have 2 phones, one for work and one for personal. The work phone was perfectly fine and I had no reason at all to trade it in.  The personal phone was seriously damaged.  The woman I spoke with assured me that if I switched to an unlimited plan and bought the monthly insurance that I would get $450-$650 per phone.  I kept insisting that my work Note was fine but she pushed and pushed.  I finally agreed to trade in both phones for a new Note 20.  On a side note, I hate the Note 20.  No headphone jack.

It took weeks to get them to send me the return labels for my older phones and today I got an email that not only is my trade in value $0 but they have backcharged my account to April for the promotional price of the Note 20.  This means my next bill will be nearly $400.  Why would I have traded in a perfectly good phone for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING???  I'd still be using it without this bloated monthly bill.

I have been with Verizon for 20 years, with 8 months off to try a different service, and I'm now stuck with them until my devices are paid off.  Any company that would knowingly scam their clients doesn't deserve my business.  I'll be switching services as soon as humanly possible.  Absolutely disgraceful.

Most newer phones don't have a headphone jack anymore and if you read all the detailed specs you would have seen that one was missing.  My note 10 plus came with USB C head phones but my son bought me awesome wireless ear buds that last for hours and I like them so much better than having a cord.   If you didn't want to or need to trade In one of the phones you should have stuck with it.  I haven't bought directly from verizon in years and it's been hassle free.    Never heard of monthly insurance being involved for trade ins.

@acraftylady2  precisely why I used the word "scam."  The woman made a deal that was very good.  If it had been honored I wouldn't have posted this.  And yes I'm aware of specs but I had a used car dealer working with me on this.  You really aren't helpful.  I'm trying to prevent other people from being ripped off as I was.

There are 100 posts on the forum about this kind of stuff already going way back  so I think people are well aware by now not to bother trading in phones.

BUT, Verizon continues to push FALSE advertising. We too got scammed into similar  ways... we HAVE an Unlimited Plan, and after 4 HOURS of going back and forth with Verizon online, I have concluded that since we didn't opt for a "upgraded Unlimited Plan" they gave us 1/2 of what our old phones were originally worth.  Verizon quoted us 579.99 and 679.99 respectively for our phones as a trade in "bait switch thing"  It would have cost us a EXTRA 940.00 a YEAR for the new plan sooo in a essence, Verizon was gonna mess us one way or another.

Was it not in fine print about needing an upgraded plan for the deal?  Usually their deals spell it all out and you have to follow it to a T to qualify.  I have seen this.

"Up to $800 w/select trade-in & select Unlimited. Plus up to $500 w/port-in. Terms apply"

When you type in the phone you want to trade in and the service gives you a solid number value, you expect that to be held true, but I already have a UNLIMITED Line (as we all do) just not a Smart Unlimited line (which is 914.00 a year more BTW) so where is the savings and where is the deal?
