How long is a prepaid card good for?

I bought a $15 prepaid card at a department store in December 2012. At the time I had over 200 minutes available. I made only a few short calls since then but now have a 0 balance. Do the minutes expire after a certain time?
I'm using this forum because when I call Verizon so-called support it routes me to a a system that hangs up unless you buy more minutes.

Yes they do expire, usually 30 days, but some as early as 7 days. The card should say how long it is good for (most likely in fine print at the bottom of the backside somewhere). I think if you put something like $100 on the account before they expire you can make those minutes last a year or so but I'm not sure about that. Depends on the carrier and the card.
