After 15 years with Verizon, I decided saving $40/month was prudent as I'm now on a fixed income. I left for T-Mobile (same service level as my Verizon account was) by "Porting Out" as they call it, i.e. I took my 2 phone numbers and went to T-Mobile (saved $40/month for the exact same service). Verizon does not support/sell the Nexus 5, which I wanted, so I bought 2 of them to use on T-Mobile. The phone numbers transferred quite easily, but the fun was only starting. I OWN 2 Samsung Galaxy S3's which were my Verizon phones. I want to sell them. The ESN's are clean. BUT, Verizon WILL NOT release the phones from my account so they can be registered by a new owner, until my service date is up. Since I Ported Out 5 days after my service date, they are HOLDING MY PHONES HOSTAGE, for 25 DAYS. I can't sell them because the new owner will want to active them on their account (duh!), and Verizon will not permit it. I had a business willing to buy both phones, until I/they found out they could not be re-activated for 25 days. This is absolutely ABSURD! I talked to 2 different people at Verizon and could get nowhere. I asked to speak to a Supervisor and was told one would call me back within 72 hours. Huh? Others BEWARE. If you're leaving Verizon and own your phones, leave just before or on your service date or you will be held HOSTAGE also.

Perhaps you should have witing until you were closer to your billing cycle end date. It is all speeled out in the customer agreement you agreed to when you started your most recent contract with Verizon Wireless. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/globalText?textName=CUSTOMER_AGREEMENT&jspName=footer/customerAgr...

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Just the answer I would have expected from an employee. (Over 300 posts on this forum). instead of pointing out the Customer Agreement, which few people really read, how about helping to change a really stupid, non-customer friendly policy? Oh, that's right. That would be non-benificial to Verizon. I posted this for those 90% of people who do not read the fine print.

I'm not an employee. I have never been an employee of Verizon Wireless. I am just another customer like yourself.

Posting on this peer to peer customer forum isn't going to change the official policy.

A) Ann is NOT an employee. This is customer to customer forum. Verizon employee that do occasionally post here are CLEARLY marked as such and will only reply to post marked as questions. Thus they would never reply to this thread.

B) The fact one doesn't choose to read their service agreement doesn't mean you don;t have to abide by that. Did you read your car loan agreement or your mortgage agreement? No? Well using your logic I guess you don;t have to abide by those terms either. So no your phones are not being held hostage. You're going to get charged for a whole months service even if you leave 1 day into the new billing period.

So you must be, if you KNOW she is not an employee? And anonymous is how anonymous is spelled. If you not willing to put your real name in here, your words ring hollow. At any rate, my bill is PAID In Full, but my phones are still being held hostage. I knew in advance I would be billed for whatever was left of my month's service. No problem. Even though I owe Verizon nothing, am no longer a customer and I OWN my phones, they are just paper weights because Verizon will not reactivate them until my non-existent contract date is up.

If you want an example of an employee on this community, here are some links to the official VZW reps here.

Do you notice a pattern in the Avatar and badges on their profile?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

It's a policy they have, and there is no way around it. Sorry you found a buyer for the phones before they were released, but that's just the way it is.

OH NO!

Your phone was held hostage for 25 days!

How on earth could you contact anyone!

LOL.  Sorry to laugh at your expense, but my phone has been held hostage for 2 years, and in about a month I will be freed. If Verizon wants to hold onto the phones, and the phones numbers ?  FINE BY ME.

Have been able to make, receive phone calls or messages without it being a 40 minute ordeal for 2 years now, so I doubt I would notice. LOL.

Cannot wait to leave Verizon, and use all that money I was screwed out of for things that work.

Policy huh?

What is their policy about selling people things with lies, and then charging them for services that don't work, and then acting like a complete horses butt about how users should spend 30 to 40 hours a week troubleshooting their phones so they "work correctly".

What is there policy for customer service which equates to telling people to spend days on a poorly setup forum with tens of thousands of pages to go through for answers ?

What is there policy for customers that just want to make a darn phone call and cannot ? And the refusal for Verizon to show any concern that their products are borderline fraudulent ?

Just asking.  Cause for two years I have been asking, and have gotten nothing back, but what equates to diarrhea in a cup.

Wouldn't the user agreement be void since it is for phone, and I can't actually make a normal phone call, thus it is not really a phone, and the agreement is null and void ?  Or is it only Verizon that gets to make it up as it goes along ?
