Incoming callers occasionally get "no longer in service" message.

I've been told by several friends and family that sometimes when they call me they get an error saying that my phone number is no longer in service. If they call back, they might get it a couple times in a row before the call will connect. This happens when I'm in multiple locations, so it doesn't appear to be a signal strength issue.

Are they dialing the full ten digits to your number?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Yes. I live in an area where the full ten digits is required for local calls, and one of the persons who frequently gets this message is out of state and has to anyway.

One of the persons telling me this happens is a person not only on the same carrier, it's one of the other phone numbers on my plan.

We certainly want to make sure that you can stay connected with the people that matter most to you as I know the importance. Have you ever forwarded your number in the past? Are you still able to receive voice mail as normal when you miss a call?

I don't think I've ever forwarded this number, but it's possible. When callers get this message, they do not get the option to leave a voicemail, it's as if the phone number does not work at all. But if they call back right away, they can usually get through, though it might take a few tries.

If you can identify a failed call (date, time, originating service provider), someone should be able to open a trouble ticket with the provider to do a network trace on the call.  It could be the failing calls are being routed through a switch that has an old outdated routing table causing the problem.
