Just started Verizon contract??

Hello,

I just started my 2 year verizon contract with a new Samsung Galaxy S4 on Oct 15, 2013.

I have already paid my first month's verizon bill.

I just found out that I will be transferred for my job yesterday, and I am moving out of the country in ten days.

So I need to cancel my verizon contract now, but I need to port my phone number out to a prepaid carrier before I cancel the account.

Will verizon block my port request?

I realize I will have to pay the Verizon ETF fee no matter what.

But how do I go about this process?  If I initiate the port request with my new prepaid carrier, will Verizon block it?  or will Verizon let the port go through, and then send me a final bill for the ETF?

Or should I call Verizon first and pay the ETF, and then initiate the port request with my new prepaid carrier?  I am afraid if I do it this way, that I will lose my phone number becasue Verizon might cancel the account when I pay the ETF.

Please help.

You can do the port out without any hassle and then you'll be billed the etf afterwards.

Are you sure about this?

Some people are giving me the impression that Verizon will not let me port my phone number out if I am still under Verizon 2 year contract.  And my verizon 2 year contract only started 24 days ago.

Do i need to let Verizon know that I am planning on porting my phone number out?  Or should I just go ahead and initiate the port with the other prepaid carrier?  thanks.

You can port your number out even if you are under contract.

Just contact the NEW carrier and have them initiate the port.

That will automatically cancel your Verizon line.

You will owe the ETF and the last month's bill.
