MY account was not suppose to be a 2 year contract

When I signed up for my hot spot I specifically asked for a month to month prepaid plan.  I don't require use all the time.  I got this device for when I fly to smaller more remote airports or when I am on the road between cities I can use the wi-fi it provides as me cell phone carriers 4G service is not wide spread.  I knew it would only be once and while I would need to use it.  I have had so much trouble with my online account working that I rarely use it.  Today I log on there and see a link that says "check contract end dates".  On there I see that I am under a 2 year contract until July of 2016.  I am very frustrated.  I went to my local Verizon and they told me I had to call in that they could not help me......even though they are the ones who set it up.

For the record it took an hour for me to even get signed up.  The associate was using an ipad (or trying to) to set everything up.  I probably had to sign 8 different times during this process.  He would get all my information and fiddle with the device and get to a point then have to start over because the device kept failing.  I almost walked out during this process because the tech was clearly not working.  I wish I would have walked out now.  After way to many attempts he finally gave up and took me to a point of sale system at a desk.  I was upset by this point and he was clearly flustered.  My wife who was with me was just plain ticked off.... wrath that I faced later that day for for sticking around so long.

I am not happy with this entire process and seeing that the clerk signed me up for a 2 contract seems devious but I will assume for now it was the issues with his iPad that flustered him so much he messed up on my order.  I don't want to spend hours on the phone trying to deal with this, nor to I want to pay a cancellation fee.....I don't even want to cancel my service.  I just want to me on the correct plan I asked for.

Which hotspot device did you buy? How much did it cost? Did you read what you signed?

If you paid anything less then the full retail of any device then it would require a 2 year contract.  That is how they get their money.  The mobile hotspots at full retail are around 199.99-249.99 (plus an activation fee). If you paid anything less then that then you would have had a contract.

When ever you sign anything, make sure to read it.  If you bought something without a contract, then what would you have to sign for? That would have put up a red flag for me.  Sorry it was a horrible expirence, but you are stuck to what you signed.  (plus-"I probably had to sign 8 different times during this process." You could have asked to read what you were signing at least one time.)

He was suppose to charge me $99.99 for the hot spot at the time of purchase and it was the Ellipsis Jet Pack.   Going back through my statements for that month I don't have a charge for anything from Verizon.

("You could have asked to read what you were signing at least one time")  I did.  How many times do I need to read through the terms?  I assumed what he had me sign was the same as the previous terms he had me read which I read the the first time.  Lesson learned I guess.

I own my business and contracts are a part of every transaction.  I understand the legality of contracts yet I also allow customer service and correcting my own mistakes to prevail.  If I messed up I take care of my client. I am hoping Verizon will do the same. Maybe Verizon is too big and they conciser their clients too small to worry about such issues as their happiness.

I guess it is all black and white in the end.  If they don't want to switch me over to the plan I asked for the question then becomes do I cancel my service on principle or go on disgruntled about the interactions I have had thus far. I don't want to cancel over this especially since they have the best coverage or at least much better then my phone carrier.

Yes maybe I should have read the terms every time he brought them up on his little device.  I would have been there even longer and probably would  have walked out sooner.  Maybe I should of.   I guess my frustration at the time got the best of me and thought reading the contact once was enough.

Is this the one?:
Verizon Ellipsis Jetpack MHS800L | Verizon Wireless

The full retail is 149.99.  You bought it for less then the full retail, so that comes with a contract.  I am sorry that was not told to you.

If you did read, you would have saw the 2 year contract for the pricing. You work with contracts, why didn't you look it over each time you sign it.  Things get changed in contracts all the time with other companies.  I would never sign without reading. You did and thats on you.  Hope you learned from this, even people who work with contracts need to read everything.

Other companies will pay our ETFs, so if/when you leave, make sure to read everything there.  I really think Verizon is not going help you, becouse you signed the contract.  They even have you signing the ipad 8 times, they are going to say the same thing that I am. Good Luck. Let me know what happenes.

I thought it was $99 at the time I could be wrong....that isn't the real point.  It could have been $1000 and I would have still paid full price to get the contract I wanted.  Money wan't and isn't an issue as far as the cost of the device or the EFT.

The first contract that came up on his device was for the month to month prepaid option. The second time he started over and rebooted his iPad app it was also the month to month.  We went through this a couple more times after that.  After a while of dealing with his ipad he had had me take a seat walked away with my credit card and came back about 5 minutes later.  He brought me up to the desk had me sign a signature pad attached to the register and handed me a bag with the hot spot in it and said I was good to go and that he was sorry it took so long.

I know I am a little intimidating and after so many failed attempts I probably wasn't overly quiet when mumbling my frustration to my wife. ( i do feel bad for that) so it was probably my fault he was so flustered. It still shouldn't take an hour to get 1 device. I think when he went to an actual point of sale after he gave up on the ipad is when he must have put me under the wrong plan.  I assumed the last information he put in the iPad was transferred over but it must not have.

The thing is I don't want leave Verizon.  I like everything they have to offer and no one has coverage like they do.  Thanks for your input.  If anything I got to vent out some of my frustration.  Hopefully they will will do right by me and if not then I will just hang my head and move on.

I seem to have the same kind of luck.  I get the brand new employee every time.

Take everything back into the store and ask them to straighten it out.  Tell them exactly what you wrote here.

I Activated an old phone on my account for a boyfriend, and I could tell the guy was new.  When he finally got it done, I noticed it said 2 year contract.  I said no that was wrong it should be month to month on my own phone.  He didn't know how to fix what he did so then he called in a more experienced employee.

if I hadn't read the contract I might have been signed up wrong.
