Neighbor's network extender ruining my service

I do not have a network extender. My service has always been fine. I have been told by Verizon I must have a neighbor with network extender.

My iPhone now begins each call, whether made by me or an incoming call, with a double beep. I have that beep, and the quality of my calls is terrible- so much static I can hardly hear my callers.

I don't want to belong to neighbor's network extender. Spoken with Verizon Tier II tech support. Hopefully they can resolve this. I have never agreed to be part of a neighbor's network extender. I shouldn't be automatically joined. This is bad design.

Has anyone else faced this? Is there a fix you can implement as a user? Thanks

There are 2 states for a network extender. Open (which it is now and any VZW phone will connect if in range) and closed (where they add a "white list" and only the numbers on said white list can connect to the extender)

ask your neighbor to "close" his extender and add the numbers needed for him, thus locking you out from connecting to his extender. This is the only way to prevent your devices from connecting to his extender.

When you're connected to an extender there will be a little picture of a house with a signal above it - right near where your signal bars already are.

I will take a screen shot next time I'm at the house where there is one - it's open and I automatically connect to it when I'm within range.

Personally I would bring instructions over to your neighbors on how to close the network - assuming they have the Verizon sold one. They may not even realize it's open or that you can connect; most people wouldn't like that if they knew it. They may assume it's restricted to in their house as the extender does say what sort of sq. footage it covers.

In the mean time you can turn off the cellular network/data and use wi-fi. You can download free apps to make phone calls.

Thanks Mii,

I have tried to talk to one neighbor about this, but his English was not good and he had no idea what I was talking about. (And I barely understand this myself!) I think this neighbor is the problem, he's rather new. But there are plenty of other tenants in this complex

I don't have the house icon. But when i call #48, the recording says I am under network extender coverage. My phone is working better today, in terms of quality. But I get a double beep at start of any outgoing or incoming call. And sometimes the coverage does get bad....

Appreciate your help. Verizon says they'll fix it from their side, but I have my doubts.

This is incorrect. The list of numbers you can add are only priority numbers. They do not restrict the phones which are able to connect to the network extender.

Verizon will likely not do anything to the neighbors device.
