I've got a cellular modem in my laptop. DEAD. I've got hotspot capability on my phone. DEAD. All thanks to "per-device access fees". And no proper regulation of the industry by the Feds to look out for the interests of the general public. And Verizon is SUING the FCC for excercising their authority to DO what governments DO. Govern.
I can certainly understand the standalone cellular modem being dead because of the individual "per-device access fee", however the hotspot capability on my phone is another story. Pay for the access fee on my phone only and I can provide data to a laptop AND tablet without any additional access fees. That is why the wifi only tablet is a much better choice than the cellular model, only having one access fee for my phone instead of multiple, "per-device access fees".

Here are Verizon Wireless we believe in giving our customers what they pay for. With other carriers, some have fine print that once you reach a certain GB they will throttle your speeds.
The "blazing fast" 4G LTE speeds are not what I am paying for. I would be perfectly content to have my plan throttled to 256 kbps all the time if it meant I would never be charged for overages. I can deal with "slow" internet downloads and not streaming videos to my phone unless I'm on wifi. If I saw speed-tiered unlimited data plans offered, I would consider getting rid of my current unlimited data plan. But I can't justify paying more to get less.

I have talk to a good amount of reps and they said they will NOT remove the unlimited feature as long as you dont sign a two year contract. Some have stated that they still have people grandfathered on plans from six-seven years ago and will not force them off and the same will go for unlimited data. A couple of other reps said they will never force us to get rid of unlimited data.

Well it's been my recent experience that "reps" can say lots of things that simply don't turn out to be true. Many of them are nothing but poorly trained script-readers. I got burned on a plan change that does not have the expected features I was told it has. A followup with another "rep" did confirm in plan documentation these features were NOT included or available with this new plan I had been given. And I even got a 2-week contract extension for my troubles. Pffffttt. When this "contract" ends, T-Mobile here I come. Again.

I know a lot of people have been burned by account "upgrades" and "misinformation". My experience has been a fairly positive one. I have a grandfathered unlimited account. My contract expired 2 years ago. I spoke to 3 or 4 Verizon reps in the past several years regarding different matters. They all told me as long as I don't use promotional upgrades on equipment or change the service package, my account will not change or be taken away. In that time I purchased a GS4, and two IPhones for my kids (Could not add the phones via website. Had to use dial to activate). Added and taken away NFL Mobile services. Added the Family Security software. My monthly rate only changed for the specific service. I had some issues receiving warning messages from Verizon when I reached 5G's of data on several occasions. The warning stated that I was about to exceed my maximum data limit. Called Verizon. The rep disabled the notification. I have not received a warning message since that call. I'm not a Verizon employee, just a fairly satisfied customer.

Here is the problem. Using the upgrade programs allowed customers to get a new phone, without having to pay the expensive full price of the phone up front. But instead, vzw has pushed this idea that you have to buy a phone at full price, to keep the better, older plans, and yet when its all said and done, you end up paying TWICE for the phone since you pay FULL PRICE plus the FULL PRICE OF THE MONTHLY PLAN. EDGE program is basically the same BS!

I can agree with that as that is the same answer I got when I was asking about a Moto X just other day talking to a Rep out of Little Rock, for me I've had my plans since 2009 and as long as I can hang on to them I will plus when I bought my Razr Maxx the cost that I payed for it and that was for a Two year extension is only going to cost me $100 more to go off Contract.. No brainer there.. That's the direction i'm going..

I can accept paying the full price for the plan with unlimited data, but as for edge they should really fix that.

ATT already has. Access fees $40 on-contract, $25 off-contract, $15 after 2 lines on 10 meg or more family plans.
T-Mobile's plans are still better though. So, yes, verizon needs to hone their Edge.
