Postal Service Discounts for retirees.

Employer discounts are not part of your contract.  Even if they were, you must remain eligible for the discount (per the program rules) to continue receiving the discount.

This does not constitute a breach of contract.

Don't get me wrong as I love the service at Verizon, I just don't  like like being played.I signed up for a 2 year contract with the 20% USPS discount and would expect that to run the length of the agreement.

Thanks for that info on a discount from Sprint for postal retirees. If Verizon wants to take our discount away, it's time to look elsewhere for cell phone service. I guess they don't want our business.The cell phone market has gotten more competitive and it is a good thing Verizon has us looking for a better deal.

Most of you haven't done your research. Verizon does not offer employee discounts! The employers do! There are tons of threads about this, USPS switched the terms and only offer discounts for current employees. Why? Because it costs them money to give retirees discounts, and if you guys haven't noticed Postal mail will probably not exist in 50-100 years. They are no longer the primary means of contacting someone. They don't make as much money due to technology so they cut things. So they cut retirees from the Verizon discounts, period. Stop blaming Verizon for topics you know nothing about. If you have a problem with it, call USPS about it.

I guess it is all how you look at it. I wasn't buying cell phone service from my employer. I received a discount because of my employer. Either way, it really does not matter. If I am losing the discount I have enjoyed for many years, it is time to look elsewhere as we would for anything when prices increase. Why would anyone pay more than they have to when there are other options? Competition is good, don't you agree?

Umm, actually I DON'T agree.  Verizon gives the best service by far.  And I DID call the USPS.  They said they pay no more or less by having Verizon give the discounts and that I should talk to THEM if I had a problem.  Do you think Verizon is losing money on us with the discount?  We've been loyal customers for years, and now when we most need the discount we lose it.  If there was a way to get all of us to drop our service together in protest then I think Verizon would give us back our discount and say, "Well, we tried."   With losers like the post above though I don't se that happening.  I have written my senator and I'm trying to get everyone to call and complain, but if we don't do it together then we have no leverage. 

Do like I did.  I'm trying to get a story in AARP magazine about how retirees lose their discounts when they retire.  Once word gets out maybe Verizon will not have a lot of VERY angry customers.  It's just not good for business to have so many unhappy customers.

Well, I just spoke to a customer service rep at Verizon about my soon to be removed, discount. He explained that the terms of the discount contract with USPS states that it does not apply to retirees. That is actually false. The agreement does not mention retirees. Therefore, Verizon is taking it upon themselves to remove the discount in order to make a higher profit. That is their business and their choice. I explained to the rep that the my terms to continue as a customer were contingent on my discount, which I have had for years. I am the customer, and I make the choice on who I do business with. Those were my terms, and they do not want to continue doing business with me. Therefore, come 11/12/13, I will sever my relationship with Verizon because I actually need the discount, and choose not to take their offer of another plan (which they say is less, but after taxes is within five dollars of what I'm paying now). It's my money, not theirs.

I have found that doing business with companies or people that put a bad taste in your mouth, is just not worth it. In the end, trust is the most important issue. Enough said.

If the agreement doesn't mention retirees, wouldn't that mean the discount doesn't apply to retirees? That's how I would interpret it.
