We're using an SMS gateway to send alerts via email to various people. For those using Verizon, the sender has a random text string attached which makes it impossible to assign a specific ringtone to the sender (very important). Surely other people are having this issue, SMS is generally the way IT people send out alerts. This is a serious problem and will make me switch providers if I can't find a solution.

So you are sending Email alerts via SMS, but the 'from' string is not unique so you can't assign a contact?

Something you could try that might work. Send the Email alert to a dedicated Gmail account, and filter the messages and forward from that. Not sure how much of the transcript would get retained (or cut off) for the character limit, but a free solution to try.
