I agree with you. Unsolicited push to my phone is nothing less than spamming my phone and I deeply resent it!
Verizon never ASKED me if I wanted a "Free Trial Caller ID..." app! They just pushed it to my phone.
That's not what I bought the phone for and it's now what I pay monthly access fees for.
It's just abusive "marketing".
I LOATHE unsolicited marketing.
If I feel a need for an app, I'll go and search for it. I don't want to be deluged with unwanted "we thought you'd be interested" crap.

Then disable it from the Application management section of the phone's settings. It won't bother you again.

There are unlocked phones free of carrier specific applications. There just fine on the GSM carriers they are designed for. You can choose to purchase those devices and use those carriers. No one here can stop you from making such a choice.
