I've had it! I'm at the end of my mental rope over these relentless spam callers. Verizon, you have the technology to allow your paying consumers to have the ability to specifically block area codes and block area code plus three number exchange. Please, do not insult my intelligence by stating that you can't provide us with that service. The current "remedies" your company tout are ineffective...and you know it. The numbers coming in are not valid numbers. In less than 24 hours, I received 6 calls from 201 area code with 205 exchange. Coincidence that the 205 exchange is the same as my exchange? I think not. I've reported and blocked. I'm registered on the National Do Not Call List. So, as a consumer, I've done my part. It's time, as the service provider, to do yours. Also...what is the purpose to sending me a notification that a "blocked number" was blocked????? Why??? I don't care. I don't need to be notified that you did your dang job. Just block it...and let my phone be silent.
Filing complaints is impossible. The numbers aren't legit. The complaint requests information about the company making the calls. It's hard to provide such information when the number doesn't connect to any entity or individual. No agency can pursue "Ann who is peddling healthcare" from a number that leads to nowhere. So...let the consumer have the power to curb this relentless irritation and give us the ability to block by area code and area code plus exchange.
My bills are always prepaid each month...I believe I've earned the right to ask for such capabilities. I demand the capabilities!

"Filing complaints is impossible. The numbers aren't legit."
Actually, many times they are legitimate numbers; they've been spoofed. I've even received a call that showed my own number calling me. And that is why it's no simple matter to block these spammers. Many originate overseas, so the caller doesn't care that you are on the DNC list.......there's not a thing the US government can do to them and they know it. Now you do to.

We understand how much of a hassle this has been for you and do not want you to receive any of these calls. As mentioned by Ricco99 these calls are spoofed calls which can not be blocked by the spammers making these calls to you. We do have a service called our caller name id service. Here is a link with additional information here https://www.verizonwireless.com/solutions-and-services/caller-name-id/. Besides that we do not have any other options to provide with spoof calls. Does this make sense?

From what you're telling us, it sounds like these incoming calls are spoofed. Here is some information about what this is, and what can be done about it.
Does this help?

Hello Verizon Customer Service
What you have provided is of no help to us. We have received threatening calls from someone who has been receiving spoofed calls from us. This man is irate, has called us numerous times, cursing us out, stated "since we are harassing him, he will harass us" and has even threatened to hunt us down and cause bodily harm. We have police reports filed. When he calls us, this man's number is restricted so we have no way of knowing who he is. Therefore the police can do nothing. In addition, because it is restricted, we cannot block his number using standard methods.
What has customer service offered to do for us? Sign us up for Smart Family service which is free for first 30 days but is then $10 a month after that. And what can they do for the man who is also being victimized by the harassing phone calls “from us”? Nothing. They cannot (or more accurately will not) do anything for him.
So in summary, an angry man thinks we are harassing him. We are being threatened. We can pay to block this poor mans number. so that we are not harassed any longer. He will continue to be, growing angrier and more furious with us. I better start watching my back. We live in NYC so when someone from our area says he’s going to track us down, it may happen.

The police can get a court order and Verizon CAN tell them the number of the caller. It may be blocked to you, but their records will reflect the origin of the caller. Either the police don't know that or just don't want to be bothered.

JnEMik, we do not want you to receive threatening calls any longer. We know how important it is to block restricted numbers. The service we provide, Smart Family, is the only feature we have available that allows to block restricted numbers. Click here for more information: http://spr.ly/6580D0eAK , please refer to number 5 under Blocking Calls.

My S8 has the native ability to block calls by prefix.
Phone
3 dots menu
settings
block numbers
enter a number
Other vendors allow the ability to specify a beginning to a number, (201)-204, etc.
Why has Verizon turned the feature off.
Turn it back om?

The problem is most people get spoofed calls from their own area. Mine area. And most of my legitimate calls are too. Also the call is not actually coming form that area so it won't be blocked. It's only appearing to come from your area.
Verizon is not going to tell you why they do things and even if they did are you really going to say "Ok that makes sense it's cool that you still block this feature" No you won't. So why bother asking? Also no, they aren't going to turn it back on. You need to get unlocked versions of phones if you don't want features to be turned off by Verizon.
